Sinopsis

There is something strangely noble and also delicate about the emaciated young ragamuffin boy that the handsome Hugo, Lord Lynke, finds himself employing as his new page on his undercover mission to Spain on behalf of the King of England.  The page he has brought with from England had just been taken ill and so has to return home. The ‘boy’ is named Venturo. In fact ‘he’ is Ventura – the lost daughter of a noble and rich Spanish dynasty.Lord Lynke’s task is to marry the richest and most beautiful woman in Spain to ensure peace between the two countries which are invariably at war with each other. She is the proud, imperious and dangerous seductress Doña Alcira and this marriage would prove no great challenge for a Nobleman of Lord Lynke’s calibre and renown.Except that he faces Don Carlos, a powerful and unscrupulous suitor determined to erase any competition for Doña Alcira’s hand. She has a glamorous and dangerous matador as her current lover and employs a besotted and sinister dwarf who she uses as her assassin. The sweet adventure soon turns sour.  And when young Ventura overhears those who would murder the Lord of her heart, she realises that her own heart has no life without him.

As a boy growing up in the Black Country—drained grey by Mrs Thatcher's steely policies—Jamie dreams of escape to a magical metropolis where he can rub shoulders with the mythical creatures who inhabit the pages of his Smash Hits. Though his hometown is not without characters and Jamie's life not without dramas—courtesy of a cast of West Midlands divas led by his mother, Gloria. Her one-liners are as colourful as the mohair cardies she carries off with the panache of a television landlady.
We follow Jamie through secondary school, teenage troubles and away to art school; there he experiences the flush of first love with Billy, and the rush of the big city. But what then? Will he return to the safety of Welston, or risk everything on a new life in London?
These flamboyantly funny stories of self-discovery, set against the shifting social scenery of the 80s and 90s, are for everybody who's ever decided to be the person they are meant to be.
'These 'suburbs' are also universal: this open-heartened, delightful journey of self-discovery is known to, and should be relished by, all of us.' ANNETTE BADLAND
'This is an authentic, poignant account of working-class life and manners and, ultimately, the overriding love the author feels for those who shaped his childhood. I didn't want it to end.' ANN MITCHELL
'Rich, layered, filigree characters unveil a compelling portrait of queerness in working class England, a narrative both familiar and sacred. Reading this book was like coming home. Beautiful.' JOELLE TAYLOR
'Justin David writes with enviable poise and economy. This is first class writing, conveying with calm authenticity what it means to be at the centre of the puzzle of our own lives.' RÓNÁN HESSION
'Justin David's Tales of the Suburbs reveals a true writer's gift for comic and poignant storytelling, in which pithy dialogue and sharp characterisation make for compelling reading.' PATRICIA ROUTLEDGE
'A well-observed, charming account of small-town, working-class life and the move to the big, bad, brilliant city. This should strike a chord not just with gay readers but with anyone who's lived, loved and fought to become the person they're meant to be.' MATT CAIN
'The writing is glorious. Young queer people will see themselves in these relatable stories, and queer elders, reflecting upon their own lives, will find healing in these pages.' AMY ZING, co-founder of SINK THE PINK

'Justin David's tale of working-class gay life is a bitter-sweet, beautiful thing. The audience at Polari loved it—as well they should.' PAUL BURSTON, Polari Literary Salon

A sweet, uplifting, heart warming romance.
When vet, Timothy Milton, is offered a job in the village of Picklewick he is over the moon, especially when he shares the excitement of landing his dream position with a rather pretty stranger, who he hopes he will see more of when he starts work.
Charity Jones isn’t used to men showing an interest in her, and she’s even less used to being attracted to them. Until now, she has preferred looking after her horse to having a relationship. However, when she discovers Timothy is the new equine vet and that he shares her love of all things horsey, she wants to get to know him better.
Unfortunately, neither of them bargains for what happens when Timothy meets Charity’s sister, Faith…
And with Bonfire Night fast approaching are fireworks set to go off, or will it be nothing more than a damp squib?
This is the third novella in The Stables on Muddypuddle Lane series, and although it can be listened to on its own, you’ll have much more fun if you listen to the books in sequence and you’ve followed Petra and Harry’s story from the beginning.

Best-selling author Britney King returns with an adrenaline-fueled thriller about an unlikely array of characters and their heart-pounding plunge into the dizzying depths of madness.
March 2020: Stranded on a remote cruise ship as the pandemic ravages the world, 753 desperate passengers find themselves in a perilous situation. With no hope of docking in sight and dwindling supplies, each must fight their inner demons to survive. Among them are an eclectic mix of people—a father desperately searching for a way to save his daughter’s future, an artist running from a broken past, and a hacker looking to make one last score. But what they didn’t count on is the mysterious cult convention taking place on board.
With enough resources at stake to change or end lives, suspicion and fear quickly build. When bodies begin to drop, they question—is it the virus? Or is it one of them?

What readers are saying about The Sickness:
★★★★★ "I could not put this book down! The concept of being stranded on a cruise ship in the midst of a pandemic already had me hooked, but the mysterious cult added a whole other level of suspense. I literally had chills watching the characters fight to survive." - Goodreads reviewer
★★★★★ "What a ride! This book had me guessing until the very end. The tension and suspicion among the characters were palpable, and I was left questioning who to trust and who to root for. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a thrilling read!" - Goodreads reviewer
★★★★★ "This book was an excellent blend of a disaster story and a psychological thriller. It was like if the show 'Lost' had a baby with 'The Andromeda Strain' and it was amazing." - Goodreads reviewer

"It is your best work, Basil, the best thing you have ever done," said Lord Henry, languidly. "You must certainly send it next year to the Grosvenor. The Academy is too large and too vulgar. The Grosvenor is the only place." "I don't think I will send it anywhere," he answered, tossing his head back in that odd way that used to make his friends laugh at him at Oxford. "No: I won't send it anywhere." Lord Henry elevated his eyebrows, and looked at him in amazement through the thin blue wreaths of smoke that curled up in such fanciful whorls from his heavy opium-tainted cigarette. "Not send it anywhere? My dear fellow, why? Have you any reason? What odd chaps you painters are! You do anything in the world to gain a reputation. As soon as you have one, you seem to want to throw it away. It is silly of you, for there is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. A portrait like this would set you far above all the young men in England, and make the old men quite jealous, if old men are ever capable of any emotion." "I know you will laugh at me," he replied, "but I really can't exhibit it. I have put too much of myself into it." Lord Henry stretched his long legs out on the divan and shook with laughter. "Yes, I knew you would laugh; but it is quite true, all the same." "Too much of yourself in it! Upon my word, Basil, I didn't know you were so vain; and I really can't see any resemblance between you, with your rugged strong face and your coal-black hair, and this young Adonis, who looks as if he was made of ivory and rose-leaves. Why, my dear Basil, he is a Narcissus, and you--well, of course you have an intellectual expression, and all that. But beauty, real beauty, ends where an intellectual expression begins. Intellect is in itself an exaggeration, and destroys the harmony of any face. The moment one sits down to think, one becomes all nose, or all forehead, or something horrid. Look at the successful men in any of the learned professions. How perfectly hideous they are! Except, of course, in the Church. But then in the Church they don't think. A bishop keeps on saying at the age of eighty what he was told to say when he was a boy of eighteen, and consequently he always looks absolutely delightful. Your mysterious young friend, whose name you have never told me, but whose picture really fascinates me, never thinks. I feel quite sure of that. He is a brainless, beautiful thing, who should be always here in winter when we have no flowers to look at, and always here in summer when we want something to chill our intelligence. Don't flatter yourself, Basil: you are not in the least like him."
