When Japan launches a devastating invasion of Australia, Isla’s world shatters. Her husband is sent to the frontlines, leaving her with nothing but a promise—to protect Morey, the rescue dog she never wanted. As evacuation trains arrive, the Army refuses to let Morey on board. Torn between her vow and survival, Isla makes a choice that changes everything. Turning her back on safety, she flees north, crossing paths with Eugene, a young man running from his past. Together, they take shelter in her family’s abandoned farmhouse in rural Victoria. As days turn into weeks, survival creates a bond between them that neither expected. But as their fragile sanctuary begins to crumble, Isla must make an impossible stay true to the promise she made, or follow the pull of her heart. In a world on the brink, her promise might be the one thing that saves them all. Will Isla keep her word… or was Morey always destined to be another casualty of war? --- Set in a reimagined world with an alternate ending to WWII, Private Morey’s Jacket is the debut novel from Australian author Kate Broadway. A stirring tale of love, loyalty, and what it means to keep a promise when the world is falling apart.Ver livro

The Glugs of Gosh is a book of satirical verse written by Australian author C. J. Dennis, published by Angus & Robertson in 1917. The book's 13 poems are vignettes of life in a fictional kingdom called Gosh, inhabited by an arboreal race (that is to say, climbers) known as Glugs. Dennis describes the Glugs as a "stupid race of docile folk". Written in the style of children's nonsense poetry, the work attacks free trade, along with what Dennis saw as Australia's social conformity, intellectual cowardice and rampant bureaucracy. The language of Poetry is an art that most of us attempt at some point in our lives. Although its commonplace exposure has been somewhat marginalised in today’s often fast-paced lives we all recognise good verse that can empathise with our thoughts or open us up to experience new things in new ways, to better understand and to enjoy the many strands of our lives. But finding a starting point can be overwhelming, even off-putting, so in this series we offer up our Top 10 classic poets, who brim with talent and verse, on a range of subjects and themes that we can all enjoy. In this volume we explore the works of the English Woman. In their times many were neglected and ignored. Society was male dominated and women were definitely second class. Even a title didn’t bring equality, just a little more respect. But now we can hear their words for the wonder that they are. They speak on all manner of things with words that are knowing, inspiring and truthful. Genius in every name. 1 - The Top 10 Poets - English Women - An Introduction 2 - If Thou Must Love Me Let It Be For Nought by Elizabeth Barrett Browning 3 - How Do I Love Thee by Elizabeth Barrett Browning 4 - A Man's Requirements by Elizabeth Barrett Browning 5 - A Thought for a Lonely Death Bed by Elizabeth Barrett Browning 6 - A Curse For A Nation by Elizabeth Barrett Browning 7 - Dead Before Death by Christina Georgina Rossetti 8 - Remember by Christina Rossetti 9 - Goodbye In Fear Goodbye In Sorrow by Christina Rossetti 10 - Who Has Seen the Wind by Christina Rossetti 11 - Sonnets Are Full of Love by Christina Rossetti 12 - Death, That Struck When I Was Most Confiding by Emily Bronte 13 - I Am the Only Being Whose Doom by Emily Bronte 14 - If Grief For Grief Can Touch These by Emily Bronte 15 - Ah! In this bilingual poetry collection, Roberto Germán, shares writing across 20 years of his life. The poems tell stories of love, relationships, race, identity, and everyday living. These subjects divide the book into three parts. The poetic forms include free verse, rhyme, haiku and more, all relatable and real with vivid detail. As he explores what it's like to be a young man growing into his identity, the readers are invited into a rarely explored point of view with this level of imagery and sensorial writing: life through the young adult eyes of a Black Dominican-American, son of immigrants."Blue Ink Tears is a work of emotional beauty, historical awe, and nostalgic reminiscence. What you've compiled here is a collection of experiences, not just poems, that will make young readers think and dig deep." Tanya Manning-YardeVer livro
