Sinopsis

This book of interviews tracks the work of curators in the field of new media art in order to consider the massive changes and developments over a relatively short period of time. They are also a celebration of the ten years that the online resource for curators of new media art, CRUMB, has been publishing interviews and other research. The curators featured in this book range across the contemporary arts. They have been working away, not in the centre or the periphery, but in the nodes of this networked field of new media art.

A Brief History of Curating New Media Art - Conversations with Curators was edited by Sarah Cook, Beryl Graham, verina Gfader and Axel Lapp. It contains interviews with Sarah Cook & Beryl Graham; Peter Weibel; Barbara London; Christiane Paul; Larry Rinder; Kathy Rae Huffman & Julie Lazar; Benjamin Weil; Liliane Schneiter, Yves Mettler & Anne-Julie Raccoursier; Liane Davison; Nathalie Anglès & Sebastien Sanz de Santamaria; Matthew Higgs; Magdalena Sawon & Tamas Banovich; Steve Dietz; Rudolf Frieling.

A second book, A Brief History of Working with New Media Art - Conversations with artists, was published at the same time.

This magnificent “mansion” built in 1762–66 by and for the Lutheran Church of Geneva on the foundations of the Château d’Allinges-Coudrée stands elegantly at the bottom of the Place du Bourg-de-Four. Worthy of attention, its history is of great interest in terms of culture, philosophy and politics, but also for the details of its construction, structure and development. As early as 1921 the building was classified as a historical monument by Geneva’s Council of State (Conseil d’État).

A rich, penetrating memoir about the author's relationship with a flawed but influential figure—the painter Lucian Freud—and the satisfactions and struggles of a life lived through art.One of Britain's most important contemporary painters, Celia Paul has written a reflective, intimate memoir of her life as an artist. Self-Portrait tells the artist's story in her own words, drawn from early journal entries as well as memory, of her childhood in India and her days as a art student at London's Slade School of Fine Art; of her intense decades-long relationship with the older esteemed painter Lucian Freud and the birth of their son; of the challenges of motherhood, the unresolvable conflict between caring for a child and remaining committed to art; of the "invisible skeins between people," the profound familial connections Paul communicates through her paintings of her mother and sisters; and finally, of the mystical presence in her own solitary vision of the world around her.Self-Portrait is a powerful, liberating evocation of a life and of a life-long dedication to art.Contains mature themes.

Vic Damone quit school as a teenager to work at the Paramount Theater to help support his family after his father was injured. During this time he was exposed to a host of accomplished singers both on the stage and behind the scenes. While operating the backstage elevator for Perry Como, Damone asked if he could sing for him to see if he had any talent. He stopped the elevator between floors and after he finished, Como told him he should keep it up. In two different interviews from 1973 and 2003, Como discusses how this experience kicked off his fascinating career that spanned seven decades. Wink Martindale takes listeners on an exploration of the riveting journey from that moment, to his first hit with “I Have but One Heart” and beyond.
