What’s the secret to becoming a successful, inspiring school leader? Learning how to unlock and support greatness…in OTHERS.
With apologies to the Navy Seals, professional sports coaches, and Fortune 500 CEOs:
Your leadership advice doesn’t always apply to what's going on in education.
Leading at school isn't like leading anywhere else. We should probably stop pretending that it is.
At school, we must serve any and all clients (whether they pay or not), it's nearly impossible to fire our people (we love tenure but there are downsides to everything), and we are often supervised by elected officials (many of whom have never worked a day in our profession).
From an extraordinary partnership between a teacher and an administrator, best-selling Otherful is the easy-to-read (and laugh-out-loud) book for those who’ve discovered that influence is mightier than control. Research-backed and practitioner-tested, it’s a brilliant resource for in-school PD, administrator leadership classes, and faculty retreats. Otherful reveals an ancient truth of leadership: the most formidable power isn’t force; it’s relationship building.
Otherful will give you the tools to:
    ● Replace faculty complaining with proactive problem-solving
    ● Undercut conflict through active listening and tactical reframing
    ● Do less work, get better results, and be respected more
"DESPERATELY NEEDED IN EDUCATION... Otherful is NONSTOP TAKEAWAYS, ACTION PLANS, AND FUN with insights that defy the confines of school and will impact your work in any organization." -Greg Rosenbaum, Senior Director of SXSWEDU
"...AN EXCEPTIONAL BOOK...Kleba & O'Hara's book could sit comfortably in a business bookcase under leadership development." -Getting Smart

Though psychologist Alfred Adler (1870-1937) does not have the wider recognition accorded Freud and Jung, his work and ideas had an enduring effect on the practice and development of psychotherapy in the 20th century. This collection of 28 lectures and essays, published under the title The Practice and Theory of Individual Psychology (published in 1924), brings together many of his main ideas.Adler was initially best known for his interest in the inferiority complex and its effect on the personality and subsequent behaviour of individuals. But his focus became increasingly concerned with the particular observation that it was the social environment of individuals that had a more fundamental influence on behavioural patterns than over-arching theories on sex, symbolism, archetypes and the like. He has been described as the first ‘community psychologist.' This contributed considerably to the growth of schools of psychotherapy in the second half of the 20th century and their proliferation in the 21st. In fact, one historian has commented, “It would not be easy to find another author from which so much has been borrowed on all sides without acknowledgement than Alfred Adler.'The topics covered in this collection are varied and date from the pre- and post World War I period. It opens with Individual Psychology, its Assumptions and its Results (1914) and includes Individual-Psychological Treatment of Neuroses (1913), The Study of Child Psychology and Neurosis (1913), Nervous Insomnia (1914), Compulsion Neurosis (1918), Dreams and Dream-Interpretation (1912), and Demoralized Children (1920).His range is wide: Among them are essays such as Neurotic Hunger Strike and New Viewpoint of War Neuroses, both concerns that regularly feature in newspapers and public discussion today. As a contrast, he offers interesting observations on the writing of Dostoyevsky, and one particular case of the suicide of a prominent 19th century Austrian politician. This recording also contains (Chapter XIV) the 1918 lecture Homo-sexuality which Adler gave to the Jurististisch-Medizinische Gesellschaft of Zurich. It represents views widely held by the society of the time, which are now unacceptable. The chapter is nevertheless included here for historical purposes.

Let me guess, you are looking for a getaway. By getaway, I mean vacation. Ah yes, the vacation that you've been dreaming about all year. Well you certainly deserved to! After all, what's the point of living and not enjoying?

Traveling offers that much needed relaxation to get away from everything with yourself or with friends and families. It allows you to clear your head and remember why life is so freaking awesome, and revitalize yourself to refocus your perspective on things.

But what's the biggest setback stopping our fellow travelers from doing it more often? Work? Time? How about the biggest hurdle of them all - money?

Let's face it, vacations don't come cheap. They cost money, but that doesn't mean you have to spend a ton of dough or lose a leg to afford it. You just may not know how to best go about it, know what to do, or are simply overwhelmed. Fret not!

On the other hand, perhaps you're one of those lucky folks who get to go on permanent vacation whenever you want and money is not an issue, but still, wouldn't you rather enjoy more savings and travel the smart way?

That's why we're focusing on the fastest way to get going on a vacation, regardless of whatever limited-vacation time you may have, and travel on a budget.
