For many fans and casual observers, professional sports and violence are deeply connected. Violence on the field has real consequences for players, notably in the form of life-altering injuries from concussions. Off the field, in the last several decades, scores of athletes have committed violent acts, from domestic abuse and sexual assault to animal abuse and murder. Beyond athletes, sport also serves as a site of political and structural violence, from the displacement and hyperpolicing of everyday people for mega-events to the "sportswashing" of environmentally harmful industries.

Daniel Sailofsky examines the endemic violence in professional sports and argues that—while related to masculinity, misogyny, and individual factors like alcohol consumption and gambling—it is most intimately tied to capitalism and to capitalist modes of consumption and profit. Sailofsky explains how capitalism creates the conditions for violence to thrive and uncovers how sports leaders—coaches, league officials, and team owners—obfuscate these relationships to avoid accountability.

From minor league baseball exploitation to spectator hooliganism, Sailofsky shows the connections between the business of sports and violence, but also, more importantly, he imagines new forms of sport that are not places of harm.

You thought Adolf Hitler was bad. Well, someone who was less fortunate with power and control but equally sadistic was one of his slightly lower officers: Adolf Eichmann, the man who was in charge of many of the Holocaust deportations.
In this book, you will learn more about the life of Eichmann, someone who had been slowly getting used to the idea that supposedly, the Jews were inferior and were allegedly a problem for the German civilization. He would become devoted, during World War 2, to solve this “problem” and find many Jews to arrange for their transportation to death camps and gas chambers in Poland. Adolf Eichmann is a typical of example of what can go wrong with a culture of hate, propaganda, and gradual brainwashing techniques that dehumanize entire populations or peoples.

The authorities told folk what they ought to believe, but what did they really believe? Throughout Scottish history, people have believed in fairies. They were a part of everyday life, as real as the sunrise, and as incontrovertible as the existence of God. While fairy belief was only a fragment of a much larger complex, the implications of studying this belief tradition are potentially vast, revealing some understanding of the worldview of the people of past centuries.
This book, the first modern study of the subject, examines the history and nature of fairy belief, the major themes and motifs, the demonising attack upon the tradition, and the attempted reinstatement of the reality of fairies at the end of the seventeenth century, as well as their place in ballads and in Scottish literature.

Ezra Weston Loomis Pound (October 30, 1885 - November 1, 1972), born in what is now Hailey, Idaho, was a major American figure in the early modernist poetry movement, and a fascist collaborator in Italy during World War II. Angered by the carnage of World War I, Pound blamed the war on finance capitalism, which he called "usury". He moved to Italy in 1924, and through the 1930s and 1940s promoted an economic theory known as social credit, wrote for publications owned by the British fascist Sir Oswald Mosley, embraced Benito Mussolini's fascism, and expressed support for Adolf Hitler. During World War II and the Holocaust in Italy, he made hundreds of paid radio broadcasts for the Italian government attacking the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt and, above all, Jews. He was arrested in 1945 by American forces in Italy on charges of treason, spending months in a U.S. military camp in Pisa--including three weeks in an outdoor steel cage. Deemed unfit to stand trial, he was incarcerated in St. Elizabeth's psychiatric hospital in Washington, D.C., for over 12 years. After a campaign by his fellow writers, he was released from St. Elizabeth's in 1958 and lived in Italy until his death in 1972.

Next, progress to the "Intermediate" series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the "Conversations" series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise Filipino [Tagalog].
In Unit 1 you will hear Filipino [Tagalog] decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said.
Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Filipino [Tagalog] speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
