Sinopse

Collected Short Stories, Volume 6 continues Arthur Conan Doyle's survey of his own wide-ranging short fiction. In this collection, the focus shifts to tales of intrigue and suspense. Doyle's knack for crime storytelling is on display in several tight plots involving clever deceptions and justice served. There are also humorous exploits – one story might recount the misadventures of bumbling burglars, while another portrays an absurd duel of wits in high society. Volume 4 doesn't shy away from the macabre, either: a few stories venture into darker territory, with twist endings that reveal criminal horrors or ironic fates. For example, a story like "The Silver Hatchet" mixes crime with a touch of the supernatural in a tale of a cursed object causing madness. Overall, this volume provides a thrilling reading experience, oscillating between light-hearted capers and grim mysteries, all unified by Doyle's clear, vigorous prose.

When a meteorite crashes on the Gardner family's farm in Massachusetts, it releases an indescribable colour, an alien entity that slowly poisons the land, warps nature, and drives the family to madness. The first of Lovecraft's short stories to exhibit his trademark blend of science-fiction and horror, The Colour Out of Space explores themes of isolation, the limits of human understanding, and the terrifying indifference of the universe.

Published in 1927 in the science-fiction magazine Amazing Stories, The Colour Out of Space is considered one of Lovecraft's finest works, and was the author's personal favourite.

Though virtually unknown and financially unsuccessful during his lifetime, H.P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) is now regarded as one of the most influential 20th-century writers of supernatural horror fiction. Widely credited with inventing the "cosmic horror" genre—fiction that explores humanity's insignificance in the face of vast, unknowable cosmic forces—he also created the "Cthulhu Mythos", a shared universe of ancient alien beings and forbidden knowledge that has influenced generations of horror and science fiction writers.

A brutal murder. A seaside village drenched in fog. A vile history . . .

Aaron Andrews, a newly-minted doctor, returns to the village of Aetherton to take up his late father's practice. Hopes of easing into his new role and restoring the local clinic are dashed, however, when the disfigured body of a child is discovered in an empty flowerbed. Working closely with Evander Cochrane, the village's sole law enforcement officer, Andrews is forced to admit that the girl's death is anything but natural.

The deeper Andrews and Cochrane dive into the grisly crime, the more they learn about the village's sordid history. Though pleasant and easygoing on the surface, Aetherton's past holds many things—some of them remarkably dark. The village is soon visited by a powerful storm, leaving it without power or access to the outside world.

When the seaside village becomes entombed with fog, something begins to walk its footpaths and haunt its shores—something that should not exist . . .

“A brilliant new voice in paranormal romance.”—New York Times bestselling author Christina DoddKarina Cooper’s Dark Mission novels are red hot—and, with Sacrifice the Wicked, she returns readers  to the darkly thrilling dystopian realm of witches and witch hunters she introduced in her stunning debut, Blood of the Wicked. This time, it’s a battle of the sexes, as reluctant allies become passionate lovers in a world on the brink of destruction. Agent Simon, a witch, finds himself fighting to save the life of his stunning enemy, Director Parker Adams, while, against his better judgment, falling in love with her. Cooper has boldly staked her claim to paranormal romance greatness—with her Dark Mission books as well as her brilliantly imaginative Victorian steampunk series, The St. Croix Chronicles—placing herself in the same exalted ranks as paranormal and urban fantasy superstars J.R. Ward, Kresley Cole, and Karen Marie Moning.
