You need more Sherlock? You love the stories of The Canon but you want more ... more stories that are similar to the original sixty. You have come to the right place.
The Adventure of the Tea-Stained Diamonds:
He was not much more than a child. I estimated his age at fourteen. He was a handsome boy, with the raven-black hair and deeply tanned skin color that marks a person who came from the lands under the Raj. His young body was beginning to show the signs of an emerging well-made sportsman. From his place, lying on his back on the pavement, his dark-brown eyes stared up at the morning sky ... lifeless. Behind his head was a pool of blood, now darkened and congealed.

Theodora Sarah Orne Jewett was born on 3rd September 1849 in South Berwick, Maine, to a family that had resided in New England for several generations.

From early childhood Jewett suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and one remedy was frequent walks which contributed to her life-long love of nature.

She was primarily educated at Miss Olive Rayne's school and then the Berwick Academy from where she graduated in 1866. But much of her time was also spent reading from the extensive collection of books in the family library.

In 1868 at age 19, she was published ‘Jenny Garrow's Lovers’ in the Atlantic Monthly, and from this grew a reputation that was lauded and admired by both her captivated audience and such other noted writers as William Dean Howells.

As well as novels and short stories she also wrote children’s books and poetry volumes. Jewett was also admired for the strong female characters who were as intelligent and able as any man around them.

In her personal life Jewett was attracted and attached to several women. Many of her poems reveal the intensity of her feelings towards them. Whether Jewett found physical love with them is open to debate but she often did find devoted and loving friendship, humor and literary encouragement. From 1881, after the death of James Fields, the editor of the Atlantic Monthly, she set up home with his widow, Annie, for the rest of her life in what was termed ‘a Boston Marriage’; the cohabitation of two wealthy women, independent of male financial support.

On her birthday in 1902, Jewett was involved in a carriage accident that effectively ended her literary career.

In March 1909 Sarah Orne Jewett was paralyzed by a stroke, and after another on 24th June she died in her South Berwick home. She was 59.

Editha was a queer little girl. She was rather old-fashioned, as her aunts used to call it, and was always very fond of books. Indeed, Editha perhaps read more than was quite good for her. She spent the greater part of her time in the library reading her papa's big books and newspapers. Her most recent obsession, derived from her daily news intake, was the subject of burglars. One night, when confronted with a real-life burglar, and with the conviction that she must protect her mother from the fright of such an intruder, Editha took it upon herself to confront the unusual nocturnal visitor. Editha's Burglar was first published in 1888.

Saints and sinners the first book in "the Rake's Progress" Trilogy is an intoxicating, high-octane romp through the glittering worlds of high society, international finance, and steamy romance - perfect for fans of Jilly Cooper's "Rutshire Chronicles" and William Boyd's "Any Human Heart."
Meet Jack Drummond: devastatingly handsome, wickedly charming, and hiding dark secrets beneath his polished exterior. From the dangerous heat of 1960s Saigon to the polo fields of England's most exclusive clubs, Jack blazes a trail of broken hearts and shattered conventions across continents.
Like Cooper's iconic Rupert Campbell-Black, Jack is the quintessential bad boy you can't help but love - a man who plays as hard as he works. But where Cooper's heroes are purely British country aristocrats, Jack is a more dangerous, international creature. He's equally at home drinking vodka with Russian oligarchs in Moscow nightclubs as he is thundering across African plains on horseback or closing million-dollar deals in Manhattan.
The novel sizzles with illicit affairs, pulse-pounding adventure, and eye-watering wealth. There's the wild years in America with Mexican heiresses and Kennedy connections, the adrenaline-fueled polo matches with Kerry Packer's elite teams, and the notorious basement flat in Notting Hill that becomes legendary in certain circles. All this while Jack builds a digital empire and navigates the treacherous waters of London high society.
Don't miss the novel everyone will be talking about this season - "A Rake's Progress" is destined to become the next great British blockbuster!
