Summary

Unlike most philosophers, Aristotle’s political experience is undeniable as he was tutor of Alexander the Great, King of Macedonia’s.
"Politics", his work on political philosophy is a major result of these experiences which sit the legitimacy of this book.

Policy aims to define political science and its object via a description of the nature of political regimes. The approach of Aristotle differs from Plato, who prefers to build an ideal political system and theoretical, while Aristotle prefers a realistic and descriptive, which prefigures sociological approaches or phenomenological twentieth century.

"Politics" is a work of political science. It is described as being more like a work of monographs rather than one book. In it Aristotle reviews a variety of forms of political systems that were active in the world as he knew it in his era and location. Due to the Greek political scene, Aristotle has in common with contemporary American readers a direct experience with a form of democracy.

The book covers numerous aspects of politics, including what types of changes occur at different levels of societal organisation. He opens with the observation that it is vital readers recognise there are very significant changes that go along with the levels of organisation of a society. Since Aristotle is so thorough, by the end of the book a reader should have a very healthy grasp of multiple forms of functional governments, albeit from a particular perspective.

The Left seems to be dying a slow death. While many commenters have predicted its demise, the Left has always defied these bleak prognoses and risen from the ashes in the most unexpected ways. Nevertheless, we are witnessing today a global decline in organized movements on the Left, and while social struggles and rebellious citizens continue to challenge dominant political regimes, these efforts do not translate into support for traditional left parties or into the creation of dynamic movements on the left.Bestselling historian Shlomo Sand argues that the global decline of the Left is linked to the waning of the idea of equality that has united citizens in the past and inspired them to engage in collective action. Sand retraces the evolution of this idea in a wide-ranging account that includes seventeenth-century England, the French Revolution, the birth of anarchism and Marxism, the decolonial, feminist, and civil rights revolts, and the left populism of our time. In piecing together the thinkers and movements that built the Left, Sand illuminates the global and transnational dynamics which pushed them forward, often picking up the gauntlets their predecessors had laid down. He outlines how they shaped the notion of equality, while also analyzing how they were confronted by its material reality, and the lessons that they did—or did not—draw from this.

Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whiners, Weenies and Wimps documents the role of the twenty-one white, self-avowed socialist, atheist, and Marxist founders of the NAACP and their impact on the black community's present status at the top of our nation's misery index. It highlights the decades of anti-black legislation supported by liberal black leaders who prioritized class over race in their zeal for the promises of socialism. Their anti-black legislation, dating back with the 1932 Davis-Bacon Act, continues today to suppress inter-community black capitalism, federal construction-related black employment, work and job experience for black teenagers, quality education access for urban black children, and the role of black men as leaders within the family unit.Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whiners, Weenies and Wimps highlights the strategy, used in 1910, to inject the atheist ideology of socialism into a once enterprising, self-sufficient, competitive, and proud Christian black community. A portion of that community, the conservative black middle class, is positioned to pull our nation back from this abyss.

    Living Together - Inventing...

Is moral philosophy more foundational than political theory? It is often assumed to be. David Schmidtz argues that the reverse is true: the question of how to live in a community is more fundamental than questions about how to live. This book questions whether we are getting to the foundations of human morality when we ignore contingent features of communities in which political animals live.Schmidtz contends that theorizing about how to live together should take its cue from contemporary moral philosophy's attempts to go beyond formal theory, and ask which principles have a history of demonstrably being organizing principles of actual thriving communities at their best. Ideals emerging from such research should be a distillation of social scientific insight from observable histories of successful community building. What emerges from ongoing testing in the crucible of life experience will be path-dependent in detail even if not in general outline, partly because any way of life is a response to challenges that are themselves contingent, path dependent, and in flux.Building on this view, Schmidtz argues that justice evolved as a device for grounding peace in the mutual recognition that everyone has their own life to live, and everyone has the right and the responsibility to decide for themselves what to want.

Social practice theories help to challenge the often hidden paradigms, worldviews, and values at the basis of many unsustainable practices. Discourses and their boundaries define what is seen as possible, as well as the range of issues and their solutions. By exploring the connections between practices and discourses, Minna Kanerva develops a conceptual approach enabling purposive change in unsustainable social practices. Radical transformation towards new meatways is arguably necessary, yet complex psychological, ideological, and power-related mechanisms currently inhibit change.
