Sinopse

"The Duel" is a story by Anton Chekhov. Like many of the tales of the Russian writer, it is a rather profound story, within which there is a substantial metaphor: that of the dual nature of humanity. The setting is idyllic, but for this reason, it is an ironic background to a story full of meanness, whims, moralism , hypocrisy and ruthlessness. The questionable character who opens the whole story is a scornful and shady man who convinces a married woman to live with him. After a short time, however, he decides to get rid of her .Intrigues, lies, and black and grotesque situations lead the reader to reflect on human nature and the meaning of life itself.

The authoritative edition of Richard II from The Folger Shakespeare Library, the trusted and widely used Shakespeare series for students and general readers.Shakespeare’s Richard II presents a momentous struggle between Richard II and his cousin Henry Bolingbroke. Richard is the legitimate king; he succeeded his grandfather, King Edward III, after the earlier death of his father Edward, the Black Prince. Yet Richard is also seen by many as a tyrant. He toys with his subjects, exiling Bolingbroke for six years. When he seizes the title and property that should be Bolingbroke’s, Richard threatens the very structure of the kingdom. Bolingbroke returns with an army that is supported by nobles and commoners alike, both believing themselves oppressed by Richard. This sets the stage for a confrontation between his army and the tradition of sacred kingship supporting the isolated but now more sympathetic Richard. This edition includes: -Freshly edited text based on the best early printed version of the play -Full explanatory notes conveniently placed on pages facing the text of the play -Scene-by-scene plot summaries -A key to the play’s famous lines and phrases -An introduction to reading Shakespeare’s language -An essay by a leading Shakespeare scholar providing a modern perspective on the play -Fresh images from the Folger Shakespeare Library’s vast holdings of rare books -An annotated guide to further readingEssay by Harry Berger, Jr.The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, DC, is home to the world’s largest collection of Shakespeare’s printed works, and a magnet for Shakespeare scholars from around the globe. This collection of poems titled "Uplifted by Love " is a collection of poems inspired by the author's quest for spiritual enlightenment . It affords the author an opportunity to share his perceptions about life; the high concepts of love, purity and the divining of the Holy Grail whose origin is not of this world.
And when we speak of love and purity the concept of true womanhood is naturally implied. In her beauty and grace woman represents the ideal of these concepts as she continues to be a source of inspiration and support to manhood.
Interwoven with our unquenched longing for development, these concepts draw us along on our paths of experiencing; through our joys, pains, sorrows , births and deaths until in the awakening to self-conscious activity we are more and more able to truly perceive the greatness of the All-Powerful and Omnipotent Source of All, Whose Justice never wavers but Who also showers us with abundant joys in His great Love!
For the man oppressed by the perplexity and sorrows that comes with the dark veil of ignorance induced by our spiritual slumber and lukewarmness, through the recognitions afforded by these concepts, he will find himself aroused to joyful activity; and as one "Uplifted by Love", now bent on sharing this love, he will be glad to find that he too can be a channel for this true love whose origin is the essence of our Great Creator The Living Light, God Almighty.
