Sinopse

Inspired by true events, The Vain Conversation reflects on the 1946 lynching of two black couples in Georgia from the perspectives of three characters—Bertrand Johnson, one of the victims; Noland Jacks, a presumed perpetrator; and Lonnie Henson, a witness to the murders as a ten-year-old boy. Lonnie's inexplicable feelings of culpability drive him in a search for meaning that takes him around the world, and ultimately back to Georgia, where he must confront Jacks and his own demons, with the hopes that doing so will free him from the grip of the past. In The Vain Conversation, Anthony Grooms seeks to advance the national dialogue on race relations. With complexity, satire, and sometimes levity, he explores what it means to redeem, as well as to be redeemed, on the issues of America's race violence and speaks to the broader issues of oppression and violence everywhere.A foreword is provided by American poet, painter, and novelist Clarence Major. An afterward is written by T. Geronimo Johnson, the bestselling author of Welcome to Braggsville and Hold It 'Til It Hurts.

"Oliver Twist; or, The Parish Boy's Progress" is a novel by Charles Dickens, first published as a serialized work between 1837 and 1839. The story follows Oliver Twist, an orphan who escapes from a workhouse to seek his fortune in London. Oliver is naive and innocent, contrasting sharply with the corrupt and exploitative adults he encounters. He becomes involved with a group of juvenile criminals led by the cunning Fagin. The book explores social inequality and is an early example of the social-protest novel.

A revolutionary plot hinges on the identity of a masked prisoner in the iconic final chapter in the adventures of d’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers. In the darkest depths of the Bastille, a man has been robbed of his freedom and identity, denied any knowledge of the nature of his crimes. Only a handful of people, including the corrupt King Louis XIV and his mother, Queen Anne, know who the prisoner is and why he has been locked away. But the secret of the man in the iron mask is about to be revealed.   Long after d’Artagnan first journeyed to Paris to join the elite guardsmen known as the Musketeers, he remains in the service of the crown. His fellow swordsmen Athos, Aramis, and Porthos have long since moved on, but their paths will cross once again when the king is kidnapped and the mysterious prisoner disappears. To save France, d’Artagnan must uncover the connection between the two events and decide where his true loyalties lie—with the monarchy, or his old friends?  This ebook has been professionally proofread to ensure accuracy and readability on all devices.

An adventurous young lady and a bored young man find a bit more excitement than they bargained for. Can they find love too?
A traditional Regency romance, drawing room rather than bedroom.
Grace’s four older sisters have married and moved away, and life is very quiet and boring. It’s so stifling being female, occupying herself with her tapestry or painting, when she’d much rather have been a soldier, galloping about with a sword in her hand. She wouldn’t mind marrying, because who wants to be an old maid? But all her suitors are dullards who are only interested in her dowry. If only something exciting would happen!
George Graham is at a loose end, too, now that his Oxford cronies are settling into boring domesticity. But when he learns that a valuable diamond necklace may have been hidden somewhere in his parent’s house, he’s fired with enthusiasm for the search, and lively Grace Allamont is just the girl to help him. Along the way, they find plenty of adventure, lots of trouble — and a most unexpected love.
Book 5 of the 6-book series The Daughters of Allamont Hall. Each book is a complete story with a HEA, but read them all to find out all the secrets of Allamont Hall!
