The Victorians may have attempted to show the world they were upright, strict and full of virtue but much of this thinking has been subverted by their erotic and pornographic writing. This erotic Victorian novel has no author attributed to it but is written in the first person narrative by a character called Jack who has equipped the basement of his London home with an array of pulleys and ties in order to ensnare young women who he rapes in a variety of ways. Most of the book provides accounts of his deeds in this basement he calls his snuggery. As with almost all Victorian erotica it is the way the women seem to find themselves, their true sexual nature, although initially they are the victims of such crude behaviour, that is both shocking and eye-opening to a modern audience. Explicit and extraordinary in its detail of sexual misconduct, making it an erotic read.
