Sinopsis

This is a drama that was first performed in 1590 by The Queen's Men. No one knows for sure who wrote it, but it was evidently the inspiration for Shakespeare's play 'The Life and Death of King John'. Characters in it include Queen Eleanor, William Marshall Earl of Pembroke, and the Earls of Salisbury and Essex.

Love can happen, at any place, any time, with any given person. Many people dream of having a rendezvous with a foreigner in a foreign country and have the romance of a lifetime. And that’s exactly what Sophie got when she traveled to Firenze for a short vacation while work-studying abroad.
In the outskirts of Tuscany, a fuse sparked, leaving behind the entrails of an undesirable fire, slowly burning away the remains of those left behind. The love between Sophie and Alessandro seemed shallow and childish at best. From their initial confrontations to their constant arguments and differences, the gap between their relationships continued to push them further apart. Left with nothing more than a surreal dream with lingering desires, what will Sophie and Alessandro do when the reality of life finally takes over the world of fancy and dreams? Are the trips to Trieste, Paris, and Slovenia merely a desire for sexual deviance or a sign of true love? With an engagement ring and a lifetime promise, can Sophie really risk having something more than just a measly fling with Alessandro? As each encounter became more complicated, the initial accident turned into constant expectations with no ends.

In 1935, the DuPont Company chose to enhance its image by dramatizing great events in American history to an audience of millions each week on The Cavalcade of America. “Cavalcade” is a term used to describe pioneers who shaped the way America operates today. DuPont’s motto: “Maker of better things for better living through chemistry” was read at the beginning of each program, and the dramas emphasized humanitarian progress, particularly improvements in the lives of women, often through technological innovation. One of the most prestigious series in all of radio, The Cavalcade of America shed light on little known incidents in the lives of the pioneers of this great nation. The best talent in Hollywood stepped before the CBS microphones to star, including Humphrey Bogart, James Stewart, Helen Hayes, Basil Rathbone, Orson Welles, Bette Davis and Henry Fonda. Stories were by Arthur Miller, Carl Sandburg, Steven Vincent Benet, Norman Corwin, Arch Oboler and many others. The series enjoyed a 20-year radio run, lasting until 1953, making a transition to television from 1952 until 1957. Enjoy 12 of the greatest episodes from this award-winning drama series.

Love in Idleness is the third in Terence Rattigan's unofficial trilogy of war plays (after Flare Path and While the Sun Shines). It is published here alongside an earlier version of the play, Less Than Kind, which was never staged during Rattigan's lifetime.
Michael, eighteen, returns to wartime London from schooling in Canada, brimming with youthful left-wing convictions. Reunited with his mother, he is alarmed as he begins to realise that she is the mistress of a leading member of the war cabinet. Sparks fly between the idealistic younger man and the pragmatic politician, while the mother is torn between them...
Rattigan's first version of this comedy, Less Than Kind, was never staged and never published until 2011, the centenary of his birth. Instead it was substantially rewritten at the behest of the Lunts, who were to star in the premiere production, and it opened in the West End in 1944 as Love in Idleness.
This volume presents both plays in full so that readers may judge for themselves which is the better. Less Than Kind was premiered in London in January 2011.
This edition includes an authoritative introduction by Dan Rebellato, a biographical sketch and chronology.
