Sinopsis

The Battle of Ros na Ríg is a masterful tapestry of myth and history, intricately woven with elements of Irish folklore and legend. This epic tale unfolds against the backdrop of a mythical landscape, recounting the valiant struggles and spiritual conflicts that define the Irish cultural identity. The rich prose, fraying the lines between reality and imagination, evokes a powerful sense of place while employing allusions to the heroic sagas of yore. Through its vivid characterization and poetic imagery, the narrative explores themes of honor, fate, and the enduring spirit of resistance, making it a quintessential piece of medieval Irish literature. The enigmatic author, known only as Anonymous, emerges from the rich tradition of oral storytelling that has shaped Ireland's literary heritage. Likely a participant in or deeply influenced by the social and political tumult of their time, the author seeks to preserve the cultural ethos of ancient Ireland, resonating with the values and struggles of their contemporary society. This layering of personal and collective memory suggests a profound engagement with the themes of identity and legacy, inviting readers to ponder the relationship between past and present. The Battle of Ros na Ríg is an essential read for those interested in Irish literature, mythology, and history. Its rich narrative not only captivates the imagination but also prompts deeper reflection on what it means to belong to a place fraught with both beauty and conflict. This timeless epic will enthrall readers, offering insights into the struggles that forge not only a nation but the very fabric of human experience.

Adeline Virginia Woolf was born on the 25th January 1882 in South Kensington in London.
Although lauded as a founder of modernist writing with such classics as ‘Orlando’, ‘Mrs Dalloway’ and ‘To the Lighthouse’ and, of course, many classic short stories, her background is filled with elements of tragedy that she somehow overcame to become such a revered writer. Her mother died when she was 13, her half-sister Stella two years later and with it her first of several nervous breakdowns. Appallingly it was later found that three of her half-brothers had sexually abused her so darkness must have seemed ever present.
She began writing professionally at age 20 but her father’s death two years later brought a complete mental collapse and she was briefly institutionalised. Somehow she found within herself a literary career and with it great innovations in writing; she was a pioneer of “stream of consciousness”.
Her tight circle of friends were the founders of the Bloomsbury Group, a movement whose legacy still influences across the arts and society in many way to this day.
Whilst the dark periods continued to interrupt her emotional state her rate of work never ceased. Until, on 28th March 1941, Woolf put on her overcoat, filled up its pockets with stones, and walked into the River Ouse, in Lewes, East Sussex and drowned herself. Her body was not recovered until the 18th April. She was 59.
She left behind a note which read in part “Dearest, I feel certain that I am going mad again. I feel we can't go through another of those terrible times. And I shan't recover this time. I begin to hear voices, and I can't concentrate. So I am doing what seems the best thing to do”.

Originally published as a series of short stories in Sketch magazine, this tale of international intrigue and espionage begins when a visitor stumbles into detective Hercule Poirot's bedroom. In the final moments before his death, he tells Poirot of the crime cartel known only as the Big Four. What follows is Hercule Poirot's biggest case yet, taking him and his sidekick Arthur Hastings on the trail of the Big Four before their plans to take control of the world unfold. Note: The Big Four contains characterization and thematic elements representative of prejudiced beliefs, particularly Sinophobia and Orientalism. While these views were never legitimate nor equitable, they were unfortunately commonplace at the time of writing and publication. Rather than glossing over this painful dimension of literary history, this audiobook edition references the text as it was originally published so that it may be included when taking into consideration the overall impact of Agatha Christie's body of work. The beliefs and views present in this book do not reflect that of the publisher's.

"Middlemarch" is a novel by George Eliot, the pen name of Mary Ann Evans, published in 1871-72. Widely regarded as one of the greatest novels in the English language, it is an intricate portrait of a provincial town and its inhabitants. The narrative explores the lives, ambitions, and relationships of several characters, with the central story revolving around Dorothea Brooke and her marriage to the older, pedantic scholar, Mr. Casaubon. Eliot uses the microcosm of Middlemarch society to provide astute commentary on politics, women's rights, marriage, idealism, self-interest, and the constraints of societal expectations.
