The acclaimed author of The Tropic of Cancer recounts his 1928 trip to the City of Light and his troubled second marriage in this vivid memoir.

Published for the first time in English, Paris 1928 (Nexus II) continues in true Henry Miller fashion the narrative begun in Nexus, the third volume of the Rosy Crucifixion trilogy. A rough draft that Miller ultimately abandoned, the story describes Miller’s first wondrous glimpse of Paris and underscores several of the recurrent themes of his work. These previously unpublished memoirs capture Miller’s troubled relationship with his second wife, June; reflections on what he left behind in New York’s sweltering summer of 1927; and the anticipation of all that awaits him in Europe. Paris 1928 presents Miller’s views on Europe on the brink of great changes, counterpointed by his own personal sexual revelry and freedom of choice. Illustrations in this edition are by Australian artist and filmmaker Garry Shead.

“This book is an important piece of literary history, offering different perspectives on people and places that Miller wrote about elsewhere.” —James M. Decker

Saved by a Stranger is an honest, down-to-earth, informative book inspiring hope, perseverance, and triumph for those who are facing the need for a new organ. Through great storytelling, the author helps patients and caregivers feel empowered as they face the challenges of the unknown.
After battling a rare autoimmune disorder called Primary Schlerosing Cholangitis (PSC) for eighteen years which led to cirrhosis, Lezlee Peterzell Bellanich's husband, Capt. Rob, finally received his life-saving liver transplant on September 10, 2020 at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Today, he looks and feels like a healthy man with a new engine inside of him.
What were all of the twists and turns that led to where they are now? How does hearing amazing survival stories from other transplant patients provide hope and crucial information to those on the waitlist? How, who, and where do donated organs come from?
Saved by a Stranger unlocks the mystery of organ donation and transplantation through honest storytelling. The author not only describes their family's personal journey, which included relocating from New York to Florida at the beginning of the Covid outbreak, but also features chapters and interviews with other transplant patients and medical professionals in this field. In doing so, she hopes to increase organ donor registration, give hope to those on the transplant waitlist, and encourage all transplant centers to have regular support group meetings like the Mayo Clinic's weekly Second Chance support group for liver and kidney transplant patients and caregivers.

In every era of the Catholic Church, holy men and women have shaped history through their gifts and talents and, most importantly, through their resolute commitment to Jesus Christ. Some led armies, some founded monasteries, some lived a radical call to charity—and each one had a unique part to play.

How the Saints Shaped History focuses on the essential role of the saints, as vessels of God's grace, in moving the Church (and the world!) through her two-thousand-year history. Written especially for everyday Catholics hungry to learn more about the Faith, this book is both comprehensive and accessible. It tells the story of how more than 180 saints, from Saint Mary Magdalene to Pope Saint John Paul II, led the Church through many crises and back to her spiritual roots.

As our Church continues to face crises, this book reminds us that we still have reason to hope in our own time. As the providential hand of God worked through the saints to shape history, each of us is called to become a new saint to shape the history of the Church today.

Magical Sense - Living with MS

Sue has been living with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) since 1985. In this very personal audiobook, she explores how MS has affected her, physically and mentally, and provides valuable advice for others in the same position. Throughout the book, Sue's humour comes through, making this a life-affirming listen. It is a "must read" for anyone affected by MS. A diagnosis of MS was the start of a journey for Sue. This book tells of that journey, from the initial shock of the diagnosis through the education process (and the periods of denial) to an understanding of what it takes to survive and live with MS.
No-one in a medical team can explain MS from the perspective of the person with MS. Sue can and does, with personal candour and incredible humour.
The initial diagnosis was hard to accept. As Sue puts it, "Once I ran out of things to blame, the shock really took over. My husband, bless him, has a great ability to make people laugh. When I was with him, it wasn't too bad. But when I was alone, the pain of feeling hard done by and victimised really hurt. Like a physical thump in the guts and literally an ache in the heart. And really, even many, many years on, there are still times when I seek out company, so I can't dwell on how hurt I feel."
Sue handles a difficult subject sensitively. There is a large body of information in this book, which will be useful to everyone affected by MS, whatever their role. Medical staff will find it useful to gain the perspective of one of their "users" (as Sue describes herself).
Sue's sister was diagnosed with MS in 1989, four years after Sue's own diagnosis, and died in 2001. It was only then that Sue realised that MS could be fatal. It was the trigger that inspired the writing of this book.

    Girl Archaeologist - Sisterhood...

Girl Archaeologist recounts Alice Kehoe's life, begun in an era very different from the twenty-first century in which she retired as an honored elder archaeologist. She persisted against entrenched patriarchy in her childhood, at Harvard University, and as she did fieldwork with her husband in the northern plains. A senior male professor attempted to quash Kehoe's career by raping her. Her Harvard professors refused to allow her to write a dissertation in archaeology. Universities paid her less than her male counterparts. Her husband refused to participate in housework or childcare.

Working in archaeology and in the histories of American First Nations, Kehoe published a series of groundbreaking books and articles. Although she was denied a conventional career, through her unconventional breadth of research and her empathy with First Nations people she gained a wide circle of collaborators and colleagues. Throughout her career Kehoe found and fostered a sisterhood of feminists—strong, bright women archaeologists, anthropologists, and ethnohistorians who have been essential to the field.

Girl Archaeologist is the story of how one woman pursued a professional career in a male-dominated field during a time of great change in American middle-class expectations for women.
