A governess. A society of cruelty. A quiet resilience. And a love that redefines dignity.

Agnes Grey is the moving and quietly powerful debut novel by Anne Brontë, the youngest of the famous Brontë sisters. Drawing from her own experience as a governess, Anne tells the story of Agnes, a young woman who enters the service of wealthy families—only to confront the arrogance, neglect, and coldness of Victorian upper-class life.
