Sinopse

In 'Black Beauty,' Anna Sewell presents a poignant narrative that explores the life of a horse through the eyes of its protagonist, Black Beauty himself. Written in a distinctive first-person perspective, the novel unfolds a compelling tale of kindness and cruelty, set against the backdrop of Victorian England. Sewell employs a rich yet accessible literary style that draws readers into the emotional landscape of her equine hero, highlighting societal attitudes toward animals and advocating for more humane treatment. With its vivid descriptions and moral underpinnings, the book serves as a powerful critique of the exploitation and abuse prevalent in the 19th century, establishing itself as an early work in the animal advocacy movement. Anna Sewell's background as an avid horse lover and her personal experiences with animal suffering deeply influenced her writing. Born in 1820, Sewell faced numerous health challenges throughout her life, which limited her mobility and allowed her to reflect profoundly on her surroundings. Her passion for equine welfare, combined with her understanding of the human-animal relationship, culminated in this timeless classic, aimed at raising awareness and compassion towards the plight of horses and other animals. 'Black Beauty' is a must-read for those interested in animal rights, social justice, and the bond between humans and animals. Its universal themes continue to resonate today, making it an essential addition to both literary and ethical discussions. This meticulously crafted story not only entertains but also inspires empathy, compelling readers to reconsider their own beliefs about the treatment of animals in society.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri on the 30th November 1835 and is far better known by his pen name of Mark Twain. An American writer and humorist of the first order he is perhaps best known for his novels ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ and its sequel ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ which are often described with that mythic line The Great American Novel.
Twain grew up in Hannibal, Missouri which would later provide the backdrop to these great novels. Apprenticed to a printer he also became a typesetter and then a master riverboat pilot on the Mississippi. Later, heading west with his brother Orion to make his fortune, he failed at gold mining and instead turned to journalism and thence his true calling as a writer of humorous stories where his wit and humor sparkled from every paragraph, his craft evident with every page and punctured target.
A staunch supporter of copyright protections this helped him keep much of the wealth his writing created, though much money was also lost on investments that he pursued in his love for science and technology as well as investing in his own inventions.
Twain was born during a visit by Halley’s comet, and he predicted that he would go out with it as well. He died the day after its subsequent return on 21st April 1910, at his house, Stormfield, located in Redding, Connecticut.

    Description:
In Part Seven of At the Mountains of Madness, Dyer and Danforth’s study of the alien murals deepens into something far more disturbing. The stone carvings no longer merely recount triumph and expansion, but trace decline—depicting internal strife, biological experimentation, and the catastrophic consequences of creations that turned against their makers.
The explorers begin to understand that the city’s abandonment was not sudden, but the result of prolonged struggle. Scenes etched into the walls suggest war, mutation, and an erosion of control, as once-dominant beings face threats born of their own ingenuity. What had seemed like a perfectly ordered civilization now appears fragile, haunted by unintended outcomes.
As the full narrative emerges, the ruins feel less like a relic of the distant past and more like a cautionary chronicle. Knowledge itself becomes unsettling, and the realization grows that intelligence—no matter how ancient or advanced—cannot escape the consequences of its own ambition.
This is Part 7 of a 12-part complete audiobook series, where history recorded in stone reveals not progress, but the recurring pattern of creation, hubris, and collapse.
