Summary

This book is divided into three sections. The first one, ‘Love’ describes the ideas about love, feelings and other related aspects. The second one, ‘Life’ is a bit philosophical and deals with topics such as death, rebirth and karma as these resonate closely with my culture and beliefs. There are some poems on Nature too. The third one is ‘Longing’ and revolves around heart-breaks and pain and also includes one poem about domestic violence.

This compelling collection spans Yeats's career: from the poems of his early years, which display his interest in Irish myths and his hopeless passion for Irish patriot Maud Gonne, to the soaring, majestic poems of his old age. Works of precision, economy and sensuous, lyrical beauty, they include "The Lake Isle of Innisfree", "The Wild Swans at Coole", "Byzantium", and "Leda and the Swan".A HighBridge Audio production.

Aemilia Lanyer's 1611 poem is far more than a retelling of The Passion. It comprises a spirited defense of Eve (and, by extension, all women), elegant praises for her female patrons, a catalogue of virtuous women of the ancient world, and closes with the first "country house" poem written by a woman in English. When the hated Batista flees the country, she joins the thousands pouring into the streets to cheer as the bearded rebels, in the backs of trucks, roll into Havana in victory.Laura finds true love with a handsome revolutionary named Rio, and despite her family's pleas, they marry and start a family. But as the government becomes repressive, then brutal, she convinces Rio to leave Cuba while he still can. She plans to follow with their children, but a cruel twist of fate prevents their escape. As the country deteriorates, Laura must fight to protect and provide for her children while continuing to seek a way out. Separated by world politics and the communist regime, Rio and Laura are forced into things they had never imagined-including Santeria and organized crime-in order to survive. The one last chance to reunite their family will be greatest test of courage Laura has ever faced."From its opening shocks of loss and separation to its thrilling and emotional conclusion, Waiting on Zapote Street gives us a front-row experience of a Cuban family's hardship, love, and enduring love." Elegies & Laments - Poetic...

In these more modern time perhaps our first thoughts of an Elegy or a Lament is for someone’s passing. Wreathed in grief and death we think of a headstone on a silent grave and the memories that shelter within our hearts, slowly receding from one generation to the next, as an often lonely voice extols the virtues and traits of the one who has passed.

But these two very early forms of poetry, dating back to at least Ovid and probably further, are also surprising in their lyrical touch. These are not just mournful and sad but also whimsical or rich with celebration and tribute as they journey through joy, laughter, love, tears and comfort.

Our Classic Poets, who have specifically chosen to include the form in the title of their work, include the likes of Percy Bysshe Shelley, Thomas Chatterton, Aphra Behn, Rainer Maria Rilke, Radclyffe Hall and many others of equal measure are always surprising in their views, their analysis and their sharing of words and thoughts, offering feelings that mirror our own and provide a balm of many hues for our wounded and tender souls.
