Sinopsis

"Treasure Hunting" presents a fascinating exploration of the methodical pursuit of historical artifacts and valuable relics, bridging the gap between adventure and scientific discovery. This comprehensive guide distinguishes itself by examining treasure hunting through multiple lenses: as a scientific endeavor, historical practice, and modern profession. The book carefully balances the thrill of discovery with the crucial importance of preservation and ethical considerations, making it valuable for both academic researchers and passionate enthusiasts.

The text progresses logically through three main sections, beginning with cutting-edge detection technologies like ground-penetrating radar and marine sonar systems. It then delves into documented treasure discoveries worldwide, from Spanish galleons to Asian temples, before concluding with practical modern applications and legal frameworks. Throughout the narrative, readers gain insights into remarkable technological advances, such as how modern metallurgy aids in artifact dating and how oceanographic studies inform underwater recovery techniques.

What sets this book apart is its interdisciplinary approach, combining elements of marine archaeology, cultural anthropology, and materials science. Rather than simply recounting famous discoveries, it provides readers with actionable knowledge about research methodology, site documentation, and artifact preservation. The integration of primary sources, including ship manifests and expedition logs, alongside interviews with professional salvage operators, offers an authoritative perspective on this exciting field while maintaining scientific rigor and ethical awareness.

From one of the leading grief therapists, this compassionate and accessible guide to grieving offers a new framework for understanding and navigating loss.An intimate guide to grieving that offers hope and healing within loss from one of the nation’s top grief therapists.    Conscious Grieving is a book for anyone seeking guidance and support after loss. Renowned grief therapist Claire Bidwell Smith combines her deeply personal experience of loss with her long career spent working with thousands of people to introduce a new approach to grief, one that promotes hope and even transformation.   What does it mean to grieve consciously? Most of the time, when we lose someone we love, it feels like grief is just happening to us. We feel out of control, and overwhelmed. Claire reminds us that while loss is something that inevitably happens to all of us, how we choose to grieve is up to us. When we can consciously engage with our grief, rather than avoiding it, we can access profound pathways to healing. Presented in a series of thoughtful, brief vignettes that don’t overwhelm the reader, Conscious Grieving offers a new framework for each stage of grief: Entering, Engaging, Surrendering, and Transforming. Entering – staying present and taking care of ourselves as we navigate the shock and upheaval of a new loss.  Engaging – navigating that first year after a loss by staying in tune with our needs as more complicated feelings of depression, guilt or anger surface. Surrendering – facing the changes to our identity and who we are becoming in the face of loss. Transforming – through ritual, honor, hope, and grace, and learning to carry our grief with intention so that we can continue to grow, heal, and thrive. Grief asks a lot from us. But the ability to grieve is a birthright. We grieve throughout our lifetimes. We grieve the deaths of loved ones yes, but also moves, divorce, illness, injustice, time lost, changes in the world and healing from these losses requires that we evaluate everything we ever considered meaningful. Healing means making our lives worth the pain we endure when we lose someone we love. And transforming through grief is an opportunity afforded to all.

In the heart of Indonesia, amidst the verdant landscapes of Lebak Regency, lies a remarkable testament to centuries of unwavering commitment to nature’s embrace. Here, a pristine forest thrives, untouched by the relentless march of modern degradation. This sanctuary owes its existence to the Baduy tribe, also known as the Kanekes people, and their revered leader, Pu’un. For generations, Pu’un has masterfully safeguarded this ecological haven, ensuring its preservation through a unique leadership style deeply rooted in traditional values and a profound understanding of cultural sustainability.
This ethnographic study delves into the holistic management practiced by the Pu’un of the Baduy tribe, exploring a leadership paradigm that transcends conventional approaches. It unravels the intricate threads of their traditional governance, the profound methods by which values are instilled, and the very source of Pu’un’s enduring knowledge. As the world grapples with escalating environmental crises, the wisdom of the Baduy offers a compelling alternative—a model where human existence and natural harmony are inextricably linked, guided by a leadership that prioritizes the delicate balance of the universe over transient gains. This exploration seeks to illuminate the potential applications of such a holistic approach within contemporary management science, particularly in the critical domain of environmental and natural conservation.

In the aftermath of World War II, Europe lay in ruins. Cities were reduced to rubble, economies had collapsed, and millions of people were displaced. Among the most devastated was Germany—a nation carved into four occupation zones controlled by the victorious Allied powers: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and the Soviet Union. Berlin, the capital, although deep within the Soviet zone, was similarly divided into four sectors. This uneasy arrangement planted the seeds for future conflict.
The relationship between the former wartime allies quickly deteriorated. While the Western Allies sought to rebuild Germany along democratic and capitalist lines, the Soviet Union pursued a different vision. Stalin aimed to establish a buffer of satellite states and extend communist influence throughout Eastern Europe. These conflicting ideologies clashed most visibly in Germany, and particularly in Berlin, where the presence of Western powers in the heart of Soviet-controlled territory was seen as a threat.
Economic recovery in the Western zones moved quickly with the introduction of the Marshall Plan in 1948, which provided massive American aid to help rebuild war-torn Europe. The Soviets, however, rejected the plan and forbade its acceptance in the Eastern Bloc, viewing it as a tool of Western domination. In West Berlin, the flow of goods, reconstruction efforts, and the adoption of a new currency—the Deutsche Mark—marked a tangible difference in quality of life and future prospects compared to East Berlin and the Soviet zone.

IJourney through the dramatic evolution of Japan's feudal era in this comprehensive volume that chronicles three pivotal periods of Japanese history. From the cultural renaissance of the Muromachi Period to the chaotic warfare of the Sengoku Period, and finally to the enduring peace of the Tokugawa Shogunate, this meticulously researched work brings to life the warriors, lords, and cultural icons who shaped Japan's destiny.
The Muromachi Period (1336-1573) explores the rise of the Ashikaga shogunate and the unique blend of warrior culture with artistic achievement. Witness the flowering of Noh theater, ink painting, and the refined aesthetics of the "higashiyama culture" even as political power fragmented among regional warlords and Buddhist monasteries wielded military might.
The Sengoku Period (1467-1615) thrusts readers into Japan's turbulent "Age of Warring States," where legendary daimyo like Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu fought for supremacy. Experience the battlefield innovations, castle-building, and strategic alliances that transformed Japan's military landscape, while Portuguese firearms and Christian missionaries added new dimensions to the struggle.
The Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1868) reveals how the Tokugawa clan established Japan's longest-lasting feudal government, creating an intricate social hierarchy and isolationist foreign policy that preserved peace for over 250 years. Discover how this period of stability led to the rise of the merchant class, the flourishing of ukiyo-e art, kabuki theater, and the vibrant urban culture of Edo (modern Tokyo).
Richly illustrated and accessibly written, this three-in-one volume provides both newcomers and history enthusiasts with a definitive guide to understanding how the interplay of war, culture, and governance shaped Japan's feudal society and continues to influence the nation today.
