Sinopsis

"Persia's Royal Legacy" offers a compelling exploration of how three major Persian dynasties—the Achaemenids, Parthians, and Sassanids—fundamentally shaped world civilization through their sophisticated approaches to governance, architecture, and cultural development.Spanning nearly 1,200 years of history, the book reveals how these empires successfully managed vast territories from India to Egypt through innovative administrative systems, particularly the Achaemenid model of satrapal governance, which expertly balanced central authority with regional autonomy. The narrative progresses chronologically from the rise of Cyrus the Great, examining how Persian ingenuity manifested in various spheres of imperial administration.Readers discover how Persian engineers revolutionized water management and urban planning, evidenced in magnificent sites like Persepolis and Ctesiphon. The empire's influence extended beyond physical achievements to encompass lasting contributions in literature, bureaucratic record-keeping, and epic poetry, demonstrating the remarkable sophistication of Persian civilization.Through careful analysis of archaeological evidence, contemporary accounts, and historical records, the book challenges Western-centric historical perspectives by highlighting how Persian innovations in taxation, postal systems, and bureaucratic organization established precedents that influenced subsequent empires, including Islamic caliphates and European monarchies. This comprehensive examination provides valuable insights into how ancient Persian solutions to imperial administration continue to resonate in modern governance systems, making it an essential resource for students of world history and those interested in understanding the foundations of contemporary governmental structures.

Thomas Malthus, an English economist and cleric, published his influential work "An Essay on the Principle of Population" in 1798. The book introduced the idea that population growth would outstrip resources in the long run, leading to catastrophic consequences such as famine, disease, and war.
Malthus argued that population growth was exponential, while resources grew at a much slower arithmetic rate. This meant that over time, the population would inevitably outstrip the ability of the land to produce food, leading to a "positive check" on population growth in the form of famine, disease, or war.
Malthus also identified a "preventative check" on population growth, which he saw as the moral restraint of individuals to delay marriage and childbirth until they could support a family. However, he believed that this restraint would only be effective for the wealthy and educated classes, while the poor would continue to have large families out of necessity.
Malthus's ideas were controversial at the time, as they challenged the prevailing belief in progress and the idea that human ingenuity and technological advances could overcome any resource constraints. However, his ideas gained traction in the 19th century as Europe experienced a series of famines and population pressures, and his work influenced later economists such as David Ricardo and John Stuart Mill.
Critics of Malthus have argued that his predictions did not come to pass, as the world has experienced significant improvements in food production and living standards over the last two centuries. However, Malthus's ideas continue to influence debates on population growth, resource constraints, and environmental sustainability.

In We Will Be Heard, noted political scientist Jo Freeman chronicles the struggles of women in the United States for political power. Most of their stories are little-known, but Freeman's compelling portrait of women working for change reminds us that women have never been silent in the political affairs of the nation. From J. Ellen Foster's address to the 1892 Republican Convention to Nancy Pelosi's 2007 election as the first female Speaker of the House, women have worked to influence politics at every level. Well before most could vote, women campaigned for candidates and lobbied to shape public policy. Men welcomed their work, but not their ideas. Even with equal suffrage women faced many barriers to full political participation. The fifteen case studies of women's struggles for political influence in this book provide the historical context for today's political events. Starting with an overview of when and why political women have been studied, the three sections of the book look at different ways in whi

    * "Whoever works for God, his work will be done by itself."
    * "Keep God in your heart like you keep money in the bank."

Neem Karoli Baba known to his followers as Maharaj-ji - was a great Hindu guru, mystic, and devotee of Lord Hanuman. He is very well known outside India for being the spiritual master of a number of prominent Americans who traveled to India in the 1960s and 70s, including spiritual teachers Ram Dass, Bhagavan Das, and musicians Krishna Das and Jai Uttal. His ashrams are in India, and in Taos, New Mexico. Maharaji was a lifelong adept of bhakti-yoga and encouraged service to others (seva) as the highest form of unconditional devotion to God.

There can be no biography of him. Facts are few, stories many. He seems to have been known by different names in many parts of India, appearing and disappearing through the years. His non-Indian devotees of recent years knew him as Neem Karoli Baba, but mostly as “Maharajji” – a nickname so commonplace in India that one can often hear a tea vendor addressed thus. Just as he said, he was "nobody". He gave no discourses; the briefest, simplest stories were his teachings. Usually, he sat or lay on a wooden bench wrapped in a plaid blanket while a few devotees sat around him. Visitors came and went; they were given food, a few words, a nod, a pat on the head or back, and they were sent away. There was gossip and laughter for he loved to joke. Orders for running the ashram were given, usually in a piercing yell across the compound. Sometimes he sat in silence, absorbed in another world to which we could not follow, but bliss and peace poured down on us. Who he was was no more than the experience of him. Here are his sublime life and teachings.
