Sinopsis

Mekong River Traditions explores the intricate relationship between religious beliefs, historical events, and cultural heritage along Southeast Asia's Mekong River. Examining the enduring influence of religious traditions, particularly Theravada Buddhism, this work reveals how these beliefs are woven into the daily lives and social structures of Mekong Basin communities. The book highlights the syncretic nature of religious practices, demonstrating how indigenous beliefs blend with Buddhist philosophy.

The book traces the spread of Buddhism along the Mekong, from ancient trade routes to the establishment of early kingdoms. It examines specific religious practices in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, revealing the unique characteristics of Buddhism in each region. By incorporating historical texts, anthropological studies, and oral histories, the book adopts a balanced approach, avoiding simplistic portrayals of religious life.

The book progresses by first introducing the geographical and historical context, then moves to specific religious practices, and concludes by assessing the impact of globalization. It provides insights into cultural diversity, religious tolerance, and cultural heritage preservation. The book presents a holistic view of religious traditions found along the Mekong River.

Everett Scott had always dreamed of having a Christmas tree farm. This didn't happen for a good while and Everett worked around town as a handyman. As soon as he could buy land for the tree farm, Everett started planting very small trees that would one day be in homes everywhere for their Christmas. But it takes a long while for the trees to grow, and a lot of hard work pruning and taking care of each tree every year in order for them to have the perfect shape for a Christmas tree. The Magical Christmas Tree is also about Ellie, a sick little girl that can't wait until Christmas to be well and get her Christmas wish. You will learn all about this when you read the story.
The Magical Christmas Tree by Laurence M. Haynes is a sweet and interesting story of Christmas trees. The characters warm our hearts the more we get to know them. Many of us have trees year after year and never think about where they come from and the hard work in growing the trees to perfection. I thoroughly enjoyed the details involved from buying the land for the tree farm, to the trees being ready to go into homes for Christmas, to all of the hard work Everett and his two sons put into the tree farm. Laurence M. Haynes is also his own illustrator with beautiful pictures throughout this book.

The Corpus Hermeticum is a collection of 17 Greek writings whose authorship is traditionally attributed to the legendary Hellenistic figure Hermes Trismegistus, a syncretic combination of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. The treatises were originally written between c. 100 and c. 300 CE, but the collection as known today was first compiled by medieval Byzantine editors. It was translated into Latin in the 15th century by the Italian humanist scholars Marsilio Ficino (1433–1499) and Lodovico Lazzarelli (1447–1500).

HOLY BIBLE - JEREMIAH: NEW LIVING TRANSLATION (NLT) The Holy Bible, New Living Translation, is an authoritative Bible translation, rendered faithfully into today’s English from the ancient texts by 90 leading Bible scholars. The NLT’s living language breathes life into even the most difficult-to-understand Bible passages—but even more powerful are stories of how people’s lives are changing as the words speak directly to their hearts. The New Living Translation is perfect for every age and stage of life, allowing every member of the family to read the same text.   What method did the translators use in making the NLT? The translators of the New Living Translation set out to render the message of the original texts of Scripture into clear, contemporary English. As they did so, they translated as simply and literally as possible when that approach yielded an accurate, clear, and natural English text. Many words and phrases were rendered literally and consistently into English, preserving essential literary and rhetorical devices, ancient metaphors, and word choices that give structure to the text and provide echoes of meaning from one passage to the next. On the other hand, the translators rendered the message more dynamically when the literal rendering was hard to understand, was misleading, or yielded archaic or foreign wording. They clarified difficult metaphors and terms to aid in the reader’s understanding. The translators first struggled with the meaning of the words and phrases in the ancient context; then they rendered the message into clear, natural English. Their goal was to be both faithful to the ancient texts and eminently readable. The result is a translation that is both exegetically accurate and idiomatically powerful. More than 90 Bible scholars, along with a group of accomplished English stylists, worked closely together toward that goal. In the end, the NLT is the result of precise scholarship conveyed in living, contemporary language.

Donna, an experienced nurse, is a master storyteller. Nurses help so many people during tragedy and heartache. Walking down hospital halls can be a frightening heart-breaking experience. Yet, some degree of hope and comfort can be found through sharing life-changing true experiences from friends, patients, and family. A Christian perspective is given as scripture is creatively threaded throughout the chapters. Consider the gems of our private collection of personal stories that can only be enjoyed if shared. Grandma will simplify the understanding of salvation with apple pie, in "Salvation by the Slice." Meet Louie in the ICU, an underground miner who survived an accident and encountered God in the most amazing way. Enjoy the way God orchestrates life when He is "My Paul Harvey God." Perhaps in your life the word coincidence will be transformed into God-incidence. Ponder the power available to all who pray as you examine "Quality Connections."Scripture often states God's "Expectations and Promises" are connected. The topics of honor, giving, forgiving, and love saturated with obedience are helpful reminders of what we do well and what we may consider improving. The rich messages of "The Whatever Principle" will be familiar to so many. The chapters, "God's Gear" and "Enemy Tactics" shine a new perspective on those who choose to threaten or tarnish a persons reputation. And the chapter, "Are you Looking for a Sign" shares one of my favorite memories of a family of strong faith in the face of a loved one's death. Come seeking and you're sure to find;A blessing for your heart and mind,Some comfort for your pain.Listen to these words and I will tellstories that can make you well.God's grace will fall like rain.Lay down your heartaches and your fears.Accept His love. Let Him draw near.Your life will never be the same!Donna
