Sinopsis

"Life in Nigeria" presents a comprehensive exploration of Africa's most populous nation, examining how over 250 ethnic groups coexist and adapt in a rapidly changing society. The book masterfully weaves together three fundamental aspects of Nigerian life: the intricate relationships between diverse ethnic communities, the country's transformation from an agricultural society to an oil-based economy, and the profound impact of urbanization on traditional social structures.

Through a blend of field research, demographic data, and historical records, the book illuminates fascinating aspects of Nigerian society, such as how the major ethnic groups—Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo—maintain their distinct cultural identities while participating in a shared national narrative. The work particularly excels in demonstrating how Nigeria's economic evolution from farming to oil production has reshaped both urban landscapes and traditional community structures, with special attention given to environmental and social implications in regions like the Niger Delta.

The book's multidisciplinary approach combines anthropological insights with economic analysis, making complex societal transformations accessible to readers interested in African studies, development economics, and cultural anthropology. By examining the interplay between traditional customs and modern realities, from family structures to governance systems, the work provides valuable frameworks for understanding how developing nations navigate the delicate balance between preserving cultural heritage and embracing change.

From being elected as Congress president in 1929 till his death in 1964, Jawaharlal Nehru remained a towering figure in Indian politics, a man who left an indelible stamp on the history of South Asia. As a leading light of the nationalist struggle and as India's first and longest-serving prime minister, his ideas shaped the political contours of the country and left an imprint so deep that his legacy continues to be debated furiously today.
In life, as in afterlife, Nehru was many things to many people. Going beyond the imposed labels of contemporary discourse, this book illuminates four encounters that Nehru had with contemporaries from across the political spectrum - Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Sardar Patel and Syama Prasad Mookerjee - that are critical to understanding his ideas, and his long afterlife and impress on the present.
Nehru may no longer be alive to answer his critics today, but there was a time when he pitted himself vigorously against his opponents in the marketplace of ideas, debating the most profound questions in South Asian history and decisively influencing political events. It is this intellectually combative Nehru whom we meet in this book - voicing ideological disagreements, forging political alliances, moulding political opinion, offering visions of the future and staking out the political field - a key figure in the debates that defined India

My career was being trained as and working as an Engineer mostly for Fortune 100 companies.
In parallel with that I’ve also been working on spiritual enlightenment and developing my paranormal abilities for the last fifty years.
This unusual combination of skills has led me to my passion of writing about the paranormal and many “out of the box” concepts and topics. I’ve actually written twelve books about the paranormal based on my experiences and research into these topics.
One topic which has always fascinated me has been how many paranormal experiences are usually interpreted by mental health professionals as delusional and mentally ill behaviors.
My thinking is that most people have spiritual and paranormal abilities and these cause experiences which can overwhelm some people to make them fit the diagnosis of them having mental illnesses.
Certainly there are a lot of legitimate mental illnesses which cause the need for treatments by mental health professionals.
But what happens when persons having these experiences may be normal and stable in their other behaviors but these experiences are so far beyond the norms of society that others think they are “crazy” and therefore treat them as such?
I’ve heard and read a number of stories over the years where I wonder if they were real experiences which might have just caused the person who lived them to have a nervous breakdown.
This book is my effort to help people understand the interfaces of real paranormal experiences and mental illness and how to tell which is which.
Also, what additional therapies can be used to help people who may be overwhelmed by these experiences?

The award-winning film version of this "world-changing true story" was featured by PBS across country during Black History Month 2025. The film highlighted the startling relevance of a riveting trial more than half a century ago when a black revolutionary, Black Panther Party co-founder Huey Newton, faced execution for the death of a white policeman -- with totally unexpected results. This audiobook was narrated by Rua, the same actor who voiced Huey Newton in the documentary. It allows listeners to take a ringside seat at the case that transformed the traditional all white male "jury of one's peers" to a jury truly drawn from a cross-section of the community, including women and minorities. The book also provides a rare look behind the scenes into life-or-death jury deliberations and features comments from key trial participants and observers. Pioneering television journalist Belva Davis vividly described the participants in that historic trial: "The Newton trial cast of characters would be hard to put together for a Hollywood film --- the defense attorney, the prosecutor, the jury foreman, the makeup of the jury, Newton himself." Huey's older brother Melvin Newton captured the essence of that historic trial, inspiring the book's title: "The prosecution represents the state -- the People of California vs. Huey Newton was putting Huey Newton on trial. As it turned out, [my brother] Huey put the United States on trial."
Award-winning author Lise Pearlman (www.lisepearlman.com) is a retired judge and the country's leading expert on the 1968 Newton trial. She appeared in Stanley Nelson's top-rated 2015 documentary "The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution" and created the award-winning 2022 film project for which she served as co-producer, American Justice on Trial recently renamed "In the Crosshairs." www.justicemovie.com
