Sinopse

Don River Mysticism explores the spiritual relationship between the ancient Slavs and the Don River, arguing that the river was not just a geographical feature but a powerful spiritual force. The book delves into Slavic paganism, revealing how the Don was deified and perceived as a deity connected to fertility and the passage of time. It investigates the river's role as a liminal space, a boundary between the living and the spiritual realms, and its importance in ancestral veneration. The book uncovers rituals and ceremonies associated with the Don, including offerings and purification rites designed to honor the river spirit. Through archaeological findings, folklore, and comparative mythology, the author reconstructs the ancient Slavic understanding of the Don River.

The study begins by introducing the historical and cultural context, then examines the evidence for the river's deification before exploring its role as a liminal space and its association with ancestor worship. The book concludes with an analysis of rituals, highlighting the river's significant role in ancient Slavic religious life. This approach provides a nuanced understanding of how nature shaped religious practices in the region.

This bundle contains two different books about Russia:
Stalingrad - Stalingrad has changed names. It's now called Volgograd and is still one of the largest cities in Russia. But we can't ignore the fact that for a significant time in history, it was called Stalingrad, named after the tyrant and leader of the Soviet Union in the Second World War, Joseph Stalin. Let's explore the history of this city during the Second World War, and why the battles fought there were so horrendous and pivotal in history.
At the time of the Battle of Stalingrad In Southern Russia, Germany and its allies combated the Soviet Union for control of Stalingrad (now Volgograd). It is just one of the bloodiest engagements in the history of warfare, with an approximated 2 million general losses. It's marked by intense close-quarters battle and direct attacks on people in air campaign. The German High Command was pushed to eliminate substantial army forces from other theaters of war after their defeat at Stalingrad.
St. Petersburg - St Petersburg's structures lay over the skeletons of the press-ganged servant workers who worked to build it, making it the label "the city built on bones." Historians approximate that 100,000 18th-century serfs are buried underneath the city's stunning Italianate estates and large Parisian-style streets.
They passed away of cold, appetite, illness, or, if they were truly unfortunate, wolves. They were drawn from all around the Russian Empire at the time. They dedicated their lives for the magnificence of Imperial Russia, and the city they built, St Petersburg, stands as a testimony to the Russian state's single-mindedness.
Its extravagant palaces radiate European elegance and were actively built in a Western way to bring Russia closer to Europe.

In 2018, I suffered a massive cerebral stroke at the age of 24 after cracking my neck. I woke up in a hospital with little knowledge of myself, the world, or any grounding in reality because of the damage to my brain along with left-sided paralysis. I am not the person I was before and though I want to be them again I can't and must bury them, grieve, and start over. This is how I came to terms with my new existence while letting go of my past, not because I want to but because it is a requirement to move forward.

Laches, a general in the Athenian army, saw Socrates fight bravely in the battle of Delium. When he and Nicias, another general, are asked to explain the idea of courage, they are at a loss and words fail them. How does courage differ from thoughtless and reckless audacity? Can a lion be said to be courageous? What about small children who have little idea of the dangers they face?

Should we call people courageous who do not know whether their bravery will produce good or bad consequences? What kind of education and training promotes both courage and goodness in people, whether they are young or old? Plato constantly presents courage as an essential quality for all who seek to live a good life, so what does it mean when even the bravest leaders of Athens cannot tell us what courage really is?
