It examines how African societies confronted the Scramble for Africa, showcasing that resistance wasn't merely fragmented but a complex, sustained effort. By re-evaluating colonial history, the book emphasizes the agency of African peoples, revealing that some leaders, such as Shaka Zulu and Samori Touré, employed unique strategies to combat European rule.

The book explores various forms of resistance, from armed conflicts like the Anglo-Zulu War and the Maji Maji Rebellion to diplomatic negotiations and cultural preservation. It further analyzes the lasting effects of colonial rule, including artificial borders and economic exploitation, demonstrating their influence on contemporary African challenges.

The book adopts a comprehensive approach, drawing from archival documents, oral histories, and scholarly analyses to present a nuanced understanding. Progressing from the historical context of European expansion to the legacies of colonial rule, Colonial Struggles provides readers with tools to critically analyze the forces that have shaped modern Africa. With 38% of Gen Z identifying as ‘spiritual,’ how might we meet this cultural shift and curiosity about the existence of the Soul after death?

Integrating Spiritual Conversations in Therapy meets the growing need to extend our therapeutic knowledge to include quantum theories of interconnectedness, and neuroscientific studies into relational energies, radiating from the heart when people meet.

Research shows spirituality plays an important role in mental health and resilience, yet soul and spirit are rarely addressed in counselling education.

Woven with years of practice wisdom and informed by research, case examples, lived experiences and diverse spiritual descriptions across time, author Kim Billington will help you discover how to approach spiritual conversations with sensitivity, openness and care.

Integrated with narrative therapy gems and Carl Rogers’ humanistic core qualities of presence and non-judgmental acceptance, principles also foundational to many spiritual traditions, this book shines a light where the clinical and the sacred quietly meet.

Integrating Spiritual Conversations in Therapy is written for therapists, counsellors, social workers, teachers and those who are curious, tentative or already engaged with spiritual themes in their work.
