Eating when you're hungry ... how simple is that? Not so simple for Josie and the friends she met when she took herself off to One Step, the local Overeaters Anonymous Group. She heard about Rachel's extended family, who thought meeting meant eating. She met Christopher who could only stomach one coloured food at a time. There was Olga who used food as an anchor to her past and Dave who was the family's living compost bin. Then there was Tiffany and Monica and finally Perry whose wife had two-timed his stomach as well as his heart. Josie liked to think of her food diaries as one woman's Battle of the Bulge but really it all their stories, she reflected, as she sat down to write that last entry. With Julie McGregor as Josie, as heard on ABC Radio.

“Reflects the great ethnic diversity of the contemporary Texas table, offering everything from Sauerbraten . . . to Crawfish Etouffee.” —The Austin Chronicle   Whether you’re hungry for down-home barbecue and Tex-Mex, or you want to try more exotic dishes such as Paella Valenciana and Thai Pesto, Texas Highways has long been a trusted source for delicious recipes that reflect wide-ranging Lone Star tastes. The state’s official travel magazine published its first Texas Highways Cookbook in 1986. Responding to the public’s demand for a new collection of the magazine’s recipes, the editors compiled Cooking with Texas Highways, a collection of more than 250 recipes that are as richly diverse and flavorful as Texas itself.  Cooking with Texas Highways samples all the major ethnic cuisines of the state with recipes from home cooks, well-known chefs, and popular restaurants. It offers a varied and intriguing selection of snacks and beverages, breads, soups and salads, main dishes, vegetables and sides, sauces and spreads, desserts, and more. A special feature of this cookbook is a chapter on Dutch-oven cooking, which covers all the basics for cooking outdoors with live coals, including seventeen mouthwatering recipes. In addition, you’ll find dozens of the lovely color photographs that have long made Texas Highways such a feast for the eyes, along with tips on cooking techniques and sources for ingredients and stories about some of the folks who created the recipes. If you want to sample all the tastes of Texas, there’s no better place to start than Cooking with Texas Highways.  “Texas culture in all its multi-ethnic variety is well represented.” —Texas Cooking

    Questioning Cancer - A Brief...

Is there more we should know about Cancer and could we do more ourselves in times of need? Are we receiving the best treatment our doctors can possibly offer? Is Chemotherapy, radiation or surgery the only answer? This journey started some nine years ago having witnessed the loss of many loved ones to Cancer. I felt the need to educate myself and understand why now in the 21st Century, we still have below average treatment protocols that are shockingly unsuccessful in their results. I wanted to know why we have become so passively accepting of limited treatment methods and why we do not take responsibility for our own actions in Life and when we are unwell. To question Cancer means to question our lifestyles and what we allow ourselves to be exposed to within our homes and the environment all around us. Simple yet effective methods for alleviating disease have been around for decades, yet the common narrative remains the same as we are all led to believe falsely that its not possible to cure Cancers, safely, long-term without causing harm. Orthodox medicine is ripping us off and yet we watch, while many suffer in pain, why? Empowering ourselves with knowledge has far reaching benefits especially in times of illness. The ideas and methods outlined in this book are inexpensive solutions that can be integrated into any routine. Avoiding and switching our perceptions cost nothing and can have the biggest impacts when we become conscious consumers. The Earth has always provided for us in nutrition and medicine, it is only relatively recently that we have learnt to ignore the abundance of this truly incredible world we live in. Nature doesn't need to be modified by man, simply understood.
