    Read by the author.
Data is not about number crunching. It’s about ideas. And when used properly (read: ethically), it is the problem solver of our time.
Yet many savvy people seem to be in data denial: they don’t think they need to understand data, or it’s too complicated, or worse, using it is somehow unethical. Yet as data and AI (just an accelerated way to put data to work) move to the center of professional and civic life, every professional and citizen needs to harness this power.
In The Little Book of Data, each chapter illustrates one of the core principles of solving problems with data by featuring an expert who has solved a big problem with data—from the entrepreneur creating a “loneliness score” to the epidemiologist trying to save lives by finding disease “hotspots.”
The stories are told in a fast-moving, vivid, sometimes comic style, and cover a wide frame of reference from adtech to climate tech, the bubonic plague, tiny submarines, genomics, railroads, bond ratings, and meat grading. (That’s right. Meat.)
Along the way Evans injects lessons from his own career journey and offers practical thought-starters for readers to apply to their own organizations.
By reading The Little Book of Data, you will achieve the fluency to apply your data superpowers to your own mission and challenges—and you will have fun along the way.
You will be, in other words, a data person.

You are about to experience my journey of being famous on the Internet. I reached the top—millions of followers, billions of views, six-figure months, and fans in every country. From the outside, it looked like everything people chase. Inside, it felt like a prison I built. Every click and dollar cost my peace, my family, and my sanity. In I Was Famous on the Internet, I take you behind the scenes of online fame—not the filtered dream, but the raw truth of what it does to your mind and soul. I went from a broke ex-police officer to a top Udemy instructor earning millions, became an early crypto YouTuber and a Facebook Gaming partner, and burned out until I deleted everything. You will see how platforms hook creators and audiences, how algorithms reward addiction and punish authenticity, and how chasing numbers never fills the emptiness inside. You will see the trap that turns dreamers into slaves to attention, and the wake-up call that made me walk away. I reveal how screens reshaped my family, how I justified my own addiction as work, and what it felt like to realize I was no different from my kids. You will read about wild highs (a $90,000 month) and brutal lows (burnout, bankruptcy, public humiliation), and how each crash became a new beginning until I finally saw through the illusion. This book is my confession, my warning, and my gift. If you dream of going viral, being a creator, or quitting your job to chase freedom online, I want you to know what it is really like. If you spend hours scrolling, I want you to see what you are giving up. By the end, you will understand why I deleted the channels, the followers, and the income—and why that was the best decision of my life. I found peace not by becoming more successful online, but by becoming human again. Are you ready to see what Internet fame really feels like—the truth behind the dream, the cost of the clicks, and the freedom that waits when you finally log off?

Though the Spanish physically conquered them in quick fashion, the culture and legacy of the Inca Empire has continued to endure throughout the centuries in both Europe and South America, due in no small part to the fact they were one of the most advanced and sophisticated cultures on the continent. Like the Aztecs, the Spanish burned much of the Inca’s extant writings, but it is estimated that as many as 35 million once fell under their banner, and the empire’s administrative skills were so sharp that they kept accurate census records. Their religion, organization, and laws were also effectively centralized and tied to the rulers of the empire, and their military mobilization would have made the ancient Spartans proud. After the Spanish conquest, several rebellions in the area attempted to reestablish the proud Inca Empire over the next two centuries, all while famous Europeans like Voltaire glorified the Inca Empire in optimistic artistic portrayals.
The sun was the main element present in the Inca worldview, so Inti, the sun god, was worshipped above all others and, even though the different parts of the empire were allowed to practice their individual beliefs, they were encouraged to venerate the sun. The connection with the sun even extended to their kings since they were considered to be the sons of the sun. Naturally, this meant astronomy was a key component of the Incas’ beliefs, and in addition to the sun, the Inca observed the moon, stars, constellations, and some planets, all of which became integral parts of their cosmology. The Cusco Valley was the heart of the Inca Empire, and many of the Inca's settlements have been found to contain important astronomical elements, providing clear evidence of the importance astronomy had among the Inca.
