  When we think of the Renaissance, we often think of paintings. And indeed, many painters and sculptors were part of the artistic transformation the Renaissance caused. But there was more. The Renaissance basically formed a period of collective enlightenment and freedoms that put an end to certain tyrannies and false notions from the Middle Ages. 
  The Renaissance is a time in European history marking the shift from the Middle Ages to modernity and covering the 15th and 16th centuries, identified by an effort to restore and exceed ideas and accomplishments of classical antiquity. It happened after the Crisis of the Late Middle Ages and was related to great social change. Aside from the basic periodization, advocates of a "long Renaissance" might put its start in the 14th century and its end in the 17th century. 
  Rather than a few years or specific dates, let’s take a look at what the extensive time period of the Renaissance provided, and what it leaves us with today.

  Margaret Yvonne Middleton (September 1, 1922 - January 8, 2007), known professionally as Yvonne De Carlo, was a Canadian-American actress, dancer and singer. She became a Hollywood film star and sex symbol in the 1940s and 1950s, made several musical recordings, and later acted on television and stage. De Carlo won a Laurel Award for Topliner Supporting Actress for her performance in Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments, and later starred in the tv show, The Munsters, from 1964 to 1966, playing Herman Munster's wife, Lily. She was awarded two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to motion pictures and television. The following is from a 1982 television interview.

The close bond between Armin, Ruth and Dennis is put to the test when they embark on extraordinary adventures together outside the supposed safety of the hospital.   Progressive exercises based on the authors' combined 50 years' experience are used to explain technique from making a first sample through to finished pieces. These are illustrated by over 400 specially woven samples and diagrams. The underlying principles are outlined and applied in a contemporary and creative way. Full-page images illustrate the qualities of line, colour, pattern and texture unique to woven tapestry, and the rich and exciting range of yarns available. Exercises in making and interpreting designs guide the developing weaver towards making individually creative work. Woven Tapestry offers the reader the technical skills and understanding needed to make expressive and beautiful work of their own. By working with several weft threads simultaneously, tapestry weaving becomes highly nuanced and is capable of complex imagery. Exercises in design show how to make use of the unique qualities that woven tapestry has to offer. The initial techniques are fundamentally simple and are clearly explained using only basic equipment and readily available yarns. The reader is encouraged to take time in learning, and to look closely whilst working. The continuous slow under over rhythm of weft passing through warp can promote a mental space in which to think and feel more deeply, and ultimately to create.
  Right from the first exercise there are creative choices to be made. By progressing to more advanced techniques, and working with many types and combinations of yarns, the expressive freedom available to the developing weaver soon becomes endless.
