Sinopse

In "Democracy in America," Alexis de Tocqueville undertakes an ambitious exploration of American society and its democratic principles during the early 19th century. Through a keen sociopolitical lens, Tocqueville employs a blend of empirical observation and philosophical inquiry, illustrated by his rich prose and analytical depth. The work manifests a unique literary style that intertwines narrative with profound reflections on equality, individualism, and the emerging social conditions of a nation grappling with the ideals of democracy, revealing both the strengths and inherent contradictions of the political system at that time. Tocqueville, a French aristocrat, was profoundly influenced by the tumultuous democratic movements in Europe and sought to comprehend the successful democratic experiment in the United States. His own background and experiences as a member of the French aristocracy under the specter of revolution provided him with a distinctive vantage point from which to scrutinize the dynamics of class, politics, and society. These insights culminate in a work that not only examines the American experience but also invites deeper contemplation of democracy as a global phenomenon. "Democracy in America" is an essential read for anyone interested in political science, sociology, or American history. Tocqueville's foresight into the challenges and possibilities of democratic governance remains strikingly relevant today, making this seminal text a cornerstone for understanding contemporary democratic societies. Engaging and thought-provoking, it prompts readers to reflect on the nature of equality, freedom, and the future of democracy.

As seen on Tucker Carlson Tonight!

This is the story of how I tried to get the Hunter Biden laptop evidence to the authorities.

My life changed forever on April 12, 2019, when Hunter Biden stumbled into my shop requesting data recovery from one of his liquid-damaged laptops. After his father announced his candidacy for president of the United States, and Hunter failed to pay for and collect his computer, fear for my safety grew. There was paperwork in Hunter's possession giving me permission to examine and copy his data—someone was going to come looking for the laptop, and come looking for me. Concerned that I was sitting on evidence in a criminal investigation, I set out to hand everything over to the FBI. But, feeling betrayed by the FBI's inaction in providing the laptop as evidence during the impeachment trial, I then turned to Congress, and ultimately, to a lawyer for the president, Rudy Giuliani. When the story broke, Big Tech and social and mainstream media blocked the reporting. I was instantly labeled as a hacker and a criminal. My actions were labeled Russian disinformation, and it didn't take long before people started attacking my business and my character, forcing me to close my shop and flee the state.

What J. D. Vance did for Appalachia with Hillbilly Elegy, CNN analyst  and one of the youngest state representatives in South Carolina history Bakari Sellers does for the rural South, in this important book that illuminates the lives of America’s forgotten black working-class men and women.
Part memoir, part historical and cultural analysis, My Vanishing Country is an eye-opening journey through the South's past, present, and future.
Anchored in in Bakari Seller’s hometown of Denmark, South Carolina, Country illuminates the pride and pain that continues to fertilize the soil of one of the poorest states in the nation. He traces his father’s rise to become, friend of Stokely Carmichael and Martin Luther King, a civil rights hero, and member of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) , to explore the plight of the South's dwindling rural, black working class—many of whom can trace their ancestry back for seven generations.
In his poetic personal history, we are awakened to the crisis affecting the other “Forgotten Men & Women,” who the media seldom acknowledges. For Sellers, these are his family members, neighbors, and friends. He humanizes the struggles that shape their lives: to gain access to healthcare as rural hospitals disappear; to make ends meet as the factories they have relied on shut down and move overseas; to hold on to precious traditions as their towns erode; to forge a path forward without succumbing to despair.
My Vanishing Country is also a love letter to fatherhood—to Sellers' father, his lodestar, whose life lessons have shaped him, and to his newborn twins, who he hopes will embrace the Sellers family name and honor its legacy.

"The Coming Insurrection" is a provocative manifesto penned by the enigmatic collective known as The Invisible Committee, which surfaced in France in 2007. This radical leftist treatise diagnoses contemporary society as deeply afflicted by the malaises of capitalism, alienation, and pervasive surveillance, arguing that the fabric of modern life is leading inexorably towards societal collapse. Through a compelling blend of critical theory and urgent polemic, the manifesto calls for a comprehensive insurrection against the existing order. It champions the formation of autonomous communes, the subversion of state mechanisms, and the rejection of traditional political and social structures as pathways to liberation. The text, notorious for its incendiary tone and its advocacy for direct action, has ignited significant debate, admiration, and criticism, marking it as a seminal work in radical political thought.

The Picnic - A Dream of Freedom...

In August 1989, a group of Hungarian activists organized a picnic on the border of Hungary and Austria. But this was not an ordinary picnic—it was located on the dangerous militarized frontier known as the Iron Curtain. Tacit permission from the highest state authorities could be revoked at any moment. On wisps of rumor, thousands of East German "vacationers" packed Hungarian campgrounds, awaiting an opportunity, fearing prison, surveilled by lurking Stasi agents. The Pan-European Picnic set the stage for the greatest border breach in Cold War history: hundreds crossed from the Communist East to the longed-for freedom of the West.

Drawing on dozens of original interviews, Matthew Longo tells a gripping and revelatory tale of the unraveling of the Iron Curtain and the birth of a new world order. Just a few months after the Picnic, the Berlin Wall fell, and the freedom for which the activists and refugees had risked imprisonment was suddenly available to everyone. But were they really free? And why, three decades since the Iron Curtain was torn down, have so many sought once again to build walls?

Cinematically told, The Picnic recovers a time when it seemed possible for the world to change. With insight and panache, Longo explores the opportunities taken—and the opportunities we failed to take—in that pivotal moment.

The Psychology of Spies and Spying tells the story of the people involved in spying: the human sources (agents) who betray their country or organisation and the professional intelligence officers who manage the collection and reporting process. It provides a rigorous psychological analysis of the personality and motivation of individuals involved in spying.
This book shows the importance of developing trust between agents and handlers, between agencies and their government and ultimately the public. It shows how agent handlers, operating in environments of complete secrecy, need to manage dark side behaviours because agents are selected for their access to secrets, not for their qualities. It explains why motivation is rarely simple since it is invariably a combination of many issues. It explains how fiction writers are good at developing plots and the characterisation of spies, but few capture the motivation of agents well. Finally spy gadgets and techniques are also described in detail. Included are twelve agent case studies in which most were motivated by ideology, had significant misfortune in their youth and offered their services rather than being coerced into betrayal.
The Psychology of Spies and Spying promotes the view that in the world of intelligence, it is trust not betrayal which dominates the mindset.
