Synopsis

Early in the 15th century, a young witch of Killarney, Ireland, Elva (she/her, 21), discovered to her horror that hunters penetrated the magic wards protecting her home. Forced to choose between an excruciating death or defying her late grandmother’s warnings, she mournfully opened her grimoire to summon a protective demon. During her desperate ritual, however, an innocent mistake sealed her fate and she found herself in a new world at the bedside of a gorgeous, yet irate, succubus (she/her, 3242). Did this witch bite off more than she could chew, or is this the start of an adventure in self-discovery, love, and healing?

Wrong Side of the Bed is a Heaven and Hell themed Risk-Aware Consensual Kink (R.A.C.K.) BDSM dark fantasy erotica with a strong plot, a primarily LGBTQIA+ cast, themes of sapphic romance and coming out, and characters living with severe PTSD. This novella and aspects of this series contain graphic depictions of violence, terror, death, abuse, crude language, non-consensual BDSM, and discrimination. This may be upsetting, so appropriate content warnings are supplied before each chapter. In addition, readers are given warnings before especially traumatic scenes and are provided with summaries before less disturbing content continues.

People come to me because I fix things.Broken taillights, faulty dishwashers, you name it. There are very few things I can’t make brand-new again. If it’s broken, malfunctioning, or just in need of a hand, it lands in my lap. That’s how Trey ended up in front of me, an unexpected stranger in my kitchen.Only, he’s not broken.Far from it. He’s gentle, creative, compassionate, and bright, all wrapped up in this timid, cagey package of blond curls and shy smiles. He’s been dealt a bad hand, running from someone that hurt him more than just physically, and he needs my help. My protection. But Trey is different from every other guy.He makes me feel things I don’t quite comprehend. Things I didn’t know were buried inside. No matter how hard I try to keep them quiet, I can’t ignore the way his attention quickens my heartbeat or how his soft eyes and even softer lips stir up desires I’ve never had before, and now that he’s this close to me, I’m not letting anything or anyone take him away.

AN EPIC NOVEL ABOUT CIVIL WAR–ERA NASHVILLE’S “PUBLIC WOMEN,” AN AGE-OLD SECRET SOCETY, AND THE EARTH-SHAKING POWER OF THE FEMALE

In 1862, after a tragedy at home, twenty-two-year-old Sylvie Swift parts ways with her twin brother to trace the origins of an enigmatic playscript that’s landed on their doorstep. This text leads her to Nashville, an occupied city bustling with soldiers, saboteurs, partisans, powerful men—and powerful women. Sylvie translates the playscript by day, but at night, drawn into the work by the chief of the Union Army’s Secret Service, she acts as a spy.

Both endeavors acquaint her with a sisterhood whose members—including Hannah, a fiery revolutionary to whom Sylvie is increasingly drawn—possess potentially monstrous powers. Sylvie soon becomes entangled in the Cult of Chaos, a feminist society steadfast in its ancient mission to eradicate the violence of men.

Inspired by Aristophanes’ Lysistrata and the true story of Nashville’s attempt to exile its prostitutes during the American Civil War, Daughters of Chaos weaves together “found” texts, fabulism, and queer themes to question familiar notions of history and family, warfare and power.

“A dazzling synthesis of history, myth, and sheer invention. Fawkes is a bold, wild, funny writer, unafraid of taking risks. I’m eager to see what she does next.”—Charles Yu, National Book Award–winning author of Interior Chinatown
