The Apparition of Mrs. Veal is a pamphlet published in 1706, often attributed to Daniel Defoe, and is considered one of the first modern ghost stories. The narrative unfolds through the experiences of Mrs. Bargrave, a resident of Canterbury, who receives an unexpected visit from her deceased friend, Mrs. Veal, the day after her death.
On September 8, 1705, Mrs. Bargrave is surprised when Mrs. Veal knocks on her door at noon, dressed in a riding habit. The two women engage in a heartfelt conversation where Mrs. Veal expresses a desire to reconnect before embarking on a journey. She discusses their shared past, including books they read together about death and friendship, and asks Mrs. Bargrave to write a letter to her brother regarding her possessions, including a purse of gold.Despite Mrs. Bargrave's initial joy at the reunion, she becomes increasingly unsettled by the peculiar nature of their conversation and Mrs. Veal's refusal to touch anything due to her discomfort. After an hour and three-quarters of conversation, Mrs. Veal hastily departs, leaving Mrs. Bargrave bewildered.

Edmund and Mary Wilder are very much in love. But the death of their young son, Tommy, has shattered their family. Edmund is determined to bring them back together, drawing on the only bit of strength he has left—his love for Mary and their daughter, Stephanie. But Mary sinks deeper into depression while little Stephanie’s anger grows. Edmund flounders in his attempts to rescue his family from the brink of collapse and doesn’t know where to turn. Then Mary receives an invitation for the family to become guests at Manor House, a seemingly quaint Bed and Breakfast. This, she assures her husband, is the answer to all their troubles. Edmund arrives ahead of his family to spend a couple days working on his long-delayed novel. But his growing curiosity about the old house leads Edmund to an encounter that will change him forever. What will you sacrifice for love? An old fashioned psychological thriller with a nod to Stephen King, Manor House will keep you guessing and compel you to turn the page to the very end. A mother will sacrifice anything for her children. A husband will risk everything to save his wife. Manor House will take them all.

In this evocative and stunning debut, secrets in the very bones of Harthwait House are disturbed when a new tenant moves in, for fans of Ashley Poston and A House with Good Bones.Be wary the beds and the space beneath,

the cracks in the floors and the furnace teeth.

Keep your eyes from the shadows and tongue so still.

Because once Harthwait grows dark, the monsters become real.Landry is ready to clean house—not just Harthwait, but the traumatic memories and family entanglements that haunt her. Left reeling from her aunt’s sudden death, Landry knows she has to restore the old house and sell it for much needed cash. Preferably, before autumn arrives. But as renovations begin on Harthwait, she notices some peculiarities: motion sensors activate when no one is home, doors slam shut, and every night, at a quarter after midnight, the disembodied crying begins. Then, when she uncovers a hidden door during the renovations, she dares to open it.Behind the door is a world of nightmares, some of which are hers, while others belong to a monster—who is trapped inside and desperate to get out. Both haunted by their pasts, Landry makes a deal with the monster, but as they develop feelings for each other, she realizes that the thing that looks like a beast may not be the most beastly thing after all. This rich and spellbinding tale explores the idea of what we call home and who we call family.
