Sinopse

Gumbril, Theodore Gumbril Junior, B.A.Oxon., sat in his oaken stall on the north side of the School Chapel and wondered, as he listened through the uneasy silence of half a thousand schoolboys to the First Lesson, pondered, as he looked up at the vast window opposite, all blue and jaundiced and bloody with nineteenth-century glass, speculated in his rapid and rambling way about the existence and the nature of God.
Standing in front of the spread brass eagle and fortified in his convictions by the sixth chapter of Deuteronomy (for this first Sunday of term was the Fifth after Easter), the Reverend Pelvey could speak of these things with an enviable certainty. ‘Hear, O Israel,’ he was booming out over the top of the portentous Book: ‘the Lord our God is one Lord.’

Pangloss would have been right at home in a post-truth, social media world. You can imagine the tweets, “I was hanged and survived #soggyrope,” or, “#nosyphilisnochocolate.” Candide, written in 1759, was never more relevant than today. Blind obeisance and denial, barbarous villainy, greed, and rapacity, are all in a day’s toil for the young Candide. And this is in the best of all possible worlds!

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
An absurd (and unfinished) story about the threat posed by the infinite network of scissor-shaped spacecraft with completely alien shapes faced by the civilization of plant-animal creatures.
A mockery ridiculing the popular space opera of the 1930s. Although Lovecraft and Barlow intended to write one paragraph each, the latter created the majority of the work.

    Meet Jim Greene.
An ordinary detective constable trying 'not' to solve a murder.

The remote and isolated Cornish island of Gallymay was meant to be the perfect place for a break. But things don’t quite go to plan when Jim stumbles across a body on his first day.

Which is the last thing he needs. But it’s fine. He’ll call Devon and Cornwall Police. They’ll sort it out.

Except the storm, and the island, have other ideas. Cut off from the mainland during a mid-winter storm, Jim finds himself reluctantly thrust into a murder investigation, assisted by a ragtag group of well-meaning locals, in a chaotic, heartfelt, and often laugh-out-loud “almost” cosy mystery.

Told through police notebooks, witness statements, interview transcripts and body-worn video logs, Murder Crime on Gallymay blends pitch-perfect policing, with laugh-out-loud moments, heartwarming friendships, and a mystery that keeps you guessing until the final page.

But secrets dare to spill at the most inopportune moments.

Ruby is nurturing a mystery romance that she frets about her mother discovering, while Derek finds himself under the spotlight in the most disastrous of circumstances.
