Sinopsis

Portraying the revolving clash between class ideals, Antic Hay is a stunning cultural critique on life in London circa 1923. With a sharp comedic edge, author Aldous Huxley delivers a novel of ideas aimed at characterizing the unsettling times following the end of World War I.

With over-the-top characters, and ensuing brutish conversations, Antic Hay doesn’t follow a typical narrative arc. Huxley’s work portrays a world entirely fabricated on gossip, lies, and one man’s yearning for societal approval. Dripping with prose that brandished Huxley as somewhat of an iconoclast, Antic Hay has been hailed as Huxley’s first masterpiece, paving the way for books with even more controversial subject matter like that of his most popular novel, Brave New World.

With an eye-catching cover that mirrors the complexities of Huxley’s world and a professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of Antic Hay is both modern and readable. Also included is a new note about the author.

The bestselling author of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel “marries comedy and canniness into a novel that’s warm, tolerant, shrewd and exuberant” (The Sunday Times). The demise of Russell Buffery’s latest marriage has put the sixty-one-year-old actor in a reflective mood. After all, his three ex-wives—the journalist, the new-age housewife, the antique dealer—have easily found their way without “Buffy”, and his connections to his children are tenuous at best. Spurned and alone, he still wonders where it all went wrong. Until he meets Celeste . . . Only twenty-three and new to London, the fresh-faced young woman has given Buffy, the hopeless romantic, a new lease on life. But, unknown to Buffy, Celeste has her own agenda. She begins to delve into his past, but discovering each ex-wife leads to another one—not to mention the women on the side. And though Celeste may be in over her head, what is revealed to her will transform her life—and give both her and Buffy a chance to get it right this time around.Praise for Deborah Moggach “Deborah Moggach is brilliant at capturing just the right voice for her characters.” —Cosmopolitan “You’ll be hooked from the first page of this original, funny book . . . Just delicious.” —New Woman “Wonderfully funny.” —Daily Mail “Cracking good dialogue, excellent jokes and laser sharp.” —The Daily Telegraph

The play is set in Bath in the 18th century, a town legendary for conspicuous consumption and fashion at the time. Wealthy, fashionable people went there to "take the waters", which were believed to have healing properties. The plot centres on the two young lovers, Lydia and Jack. Lydia, who reads a lot of popular novels of the time, wants a purely romantic love affair. To court her, Jack pretends to be "Ensign Beverley", a poor officer. Lydia is enthralled with the idea of eloping with a poor soldier in spite of her guardian, Mrs. Malaprop, a moralistic widow. Mrs. Malaprop is the chief comic figure of the play, thanks to her continual misuse of words that sound like the words she intends but mean something completely different. (The term malapropism was coined in reference to the character.) Lydia has two other suitors: Bob Acres (a somewhat buffoonish country gentleman), and Sir Lucius O'Trigger, an impoverished and combative Irish gentleman. Sir Lucius pays Lucy to carry love notes between him and Lydia (who uses the name "Delia"), but Lucy is swindling him: "Delia" is actually Mrs. Malaprop. Donald Trump hates being laughed at. So let's laugh.
Donald Trump DOES NOT want you to read his (totally unauthorized and fictional) diary and he absolutely in no way wants you to know what insiders refer to as his "secret identity."
We see a criminal who hides tax records, misuses money from his own charities, and invokes the presidential pardon to shield business buddies and accomplices from the consequences of their actions.
But the he sees a ninja: Trump Ninja.
From the guy who likes to "joke" about being president for life and asks foreign governments to dig up dirt on his political opponents, comes a brand new book for your outrage and amusement.
Trump Ninja vs. Impeachment, sees our Colluder-in-Chief trying to figure out what the word Impeachment actually means, while saving the world from S.N.O.W.F.L.A.K.E., the conspiracy behind the conspiracies.
EXCERPT FROM CLASSIFIED ENTRY INCLUDED BELOW:
I’ve been nominated for an impeachment. Huge honor. The best. Very few people have gotten this, I’ll tell you that. Clinton. He got one. This was back when he was a good guy. I bet the presidents of other countries, they’re going to be calling in and congratulating us.
They say this thing isn’t a popularity contest. But it’s a popularity contest, folks.
And who do you think is popular? Big league. PAM! President.
Trump Ninja vs. Impeachment. KERSPLAMO! Go get it.
Trump Ninja spin-kicks his way to the best-seller list with the super secret (aka fictional) history of the most tremendous and best (I just vomited in my mouth a little) presidency America has ever seen. Trump Ninja vs. Impeachment is book four in the seven book Trump Ninja series. A must-read reality check for anybody who has ever pondered making a new life abroad
    "Pure enjoyment!"
    "Another corker from Mr Cawley"
"Couldn't put it down. Made me happy, made me sad, made me happy some more. Really, really good book. Can't wait for the next installment!"
"Funny, emotional and identifiable, loved every minute..."
The first six months of running the Smugglers Tavern had been a baptism of fire. The subsequent years were about as much fun as bobbing for apples in a vat of acid.
Having swapped the tin roof of a cold British fish market for the sunny skies of Tenerife, one of Spain's holiday islands, Joe and Joy succeeded in thwarting the first wave of attacks from bungling bureaucrats, bewildered holidaymakers and their own spectacular ineptitude.
What they didn’t realise was that their enemies were regrouping. Not only that, but those enemies had made camp a lot closer to home, enemies that would make their encounters with exploding gas bottles, East European squatters and big-time Charlies seem like chapters from a children's picture book.
Dreams are shattered, relationships left in tatters and sanity is tested in this prize-winning travel and humour memoir in this revelation about what it's really like when you try to make a better life for yourself overseas.Recent reviews..."Beautifully observed, laugh-out-loud funny in parts and heartbreakingly emotional in others. If you've ever lived abroad, particularly in Spain, this book has something in it for you.""Hilarious all the way through and tinged with the slightest of sadness in parts.""The humour reminds me a lot of Deric Longden's equally poignant books and plays, especially the bits about Joe's gran and Buster the cat. Would make a great film.""Loved this book! Laughed and cried... Honest and compelling read."
