Summary

In this weird and wonderful museum catalogue, the optician's prescription for the 1966 World Cup Russian linesman appears next to a news report of an ear-biting scandal in the Roman Gladiatorial arena, and an advert for Roger Bannister's four-minute egg timer is featured alongside Andrew Flintoff's bar bill from the 2005 Ashes celebrations.

Tutenkhamen's Tracksuit ransacks the dusty lockers and forgotten corners of the world's dressing-rooms to present a unique collection of subverted reality. Satirical, surreal and completely invented, fans of every sport will enjoy this knowing and mischievous hijacking of the defining moments of popular sporting culture. The book illuminates the most famous moments, lives, personalities and controversies in sport with a unique collection of found (i.e. made-up!) objects drawn from throughout history. From match-fixing in Ancient Egypt to Twittering kiss-and-tells, no sporting stone is left unturned.

The hundred objects are presented as a unique collection of sporting ephemera curated by Gideon Rupert, Acting Director of the National Museum for Sport and Fishing, Orkney. From spoof diaries, school reports, news articles and intercepted emails to postcards, seating plans, tactical diagrams and cave paintings, each tells the story of a well-known sporting event or personality in a completely irreverent way, alongside curator's notes and spurious academic references. After reading Tutenkhamen's Tracksuit, you'll never look at a museum catalogue in the same way again.

Sailing Simplified is a literal and simple sailing training guide with a little tongue-in- cheek diversion. A person with a little boating experience, and some, or minimal, common sense, should be able to grasp the simple concept of using wind power to travel over the world’s waters. This lesson plan will take you from stepping aboard a typically equipped and rigged small to medium-sized sailboat to sailing it about the local waters. It will also prime you in a small amount of the mysterious sailor’s language.
Warning, warning, this may lead you to a lifetime of casual sailing or lure you into a whole new way of speaking and/or acting like a sailor geek.
I wish you blue skies, high tides, fair winds, light seas, loads of fun and a bone in your teeth.

“Sometimes I think that my whole life is on film, that my whole life is in print. But it’s not like that. There are things which are only in my heart—that no one knows. At last I have decided to tell everything.”—Diego Maradona A poor boy from a Buenos Aires shanty town, Diego Maradona became a genius with the soccer ball, kicking his way to the heights of South American, European, and world soccer, yet his struggles with the pressures of life inside and outside the game repeatedly threatened to tear him and his legend down. Hero or villain, one thing about Maradona is certain: He was the greatest soccer player of his generation—and perhaps of all-time. Never before has the legendary Maradona given us his extraordinary story in his own words—until now. From his poverty-stricken origins to his greatest glories on the field, Maradona recounts, with astonishing frankness and brilliant insight, the pivotal moments of his life—the pressures of being a child prodigy, the infamous semi-final game against England in the 1986 World Cup, an incredible turn-around and the dream-turned-sour at Napoli, and the shame and disgrace of his positive drug test at USA 1994. In this amazingly honest autobiography, we see inside the mind of one of the most talented, controversial, and complex sportsmen of our times—a man torn between the demands of corporate club bosses, the fans, the media, and his own tempestuous personal life. With a new epilogue exclusive to this paperback edition that brings Maradona’s remarkable story up-to-date and more than eighty wonderful photographs, Maradona is a confessional, a revelation, an apology, and a celebration.Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Sports Publishing imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in sports—books about baseball, pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, or soccer, we have a book about your sport or your team.Whether you are a New York Yankees fan or hail from Red Sox nation; whether you are a die-hard Green Bay Packers or Dallas Cowboys fan; whether you root for the Kentucky Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, UCLA Bruins, or Kansas Jayhawks; whether you route for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, or Los Angeles Kings; we have a book for you.
