  Round the Sofa (1859), is a book of stories by the lady that Charles Dickens called his “dear Scheherazade” due to her skill as a story teller. That Lady was Mrs. Elizabeth Gaskell (North and South, Wives and Daughters, Cranford etc.). Mrs. Gaskell begins with Round the Sofa, a short story which she uses as a device to stitch together six previously published stories into a single work. It introduces us to a set of characters who take turns to recount stories to one another during their weekly soirée. My Lady Ludlow tells the story of the widowed, aristocratic Lady Ludlow and her fierce resistance to change. It is told through the eyes of one of her young charges. Incidentally, it was one of the books used to create the TV series Cranford. An Accursed Race is actually an essay about a persecuted minority group, the Cagots in Western France.   A desperate dark elf seek the wizard’s assistance to ease her husband’s fears. She claims that he can hear shadows in the walls that intend to take him. As she herself is attacked on the street Turik the Wizard and Jendra Andoral has to assist in any way they can, taking them outside the city walls to a place they did not know about. 
  In the series of The Wizard of Moorport, we get to follow the old town wizard Turik, his sword wielding friend and half elf, Jendra Andoral and the faun Pym, how runs errands and do odd jobs for the old wizard. 
  This is a short fantasy/mystery story set in the town of Moorport, an independent township in Eeyr. It is run by the Portmaster and is considered a safe and lawful part of the world. But danger still lurks in the cobbled alleys and Turik the Wizard takes on the task of protecting his people.

Echet’s apprentice had already melded the iron with bone ash, working the metal, and now it was ready for the master-smith’s own hand. He had been obliged to take on an apprentice two winters gone. At thirty-eight winters he was no longer a young man; but his years were growing heavy, his time passing more quickly than he would have ever thought possible. When the iron’s tip began to glow with a hint of yellow, Echet reached into the fire with the tongs, pulled the lump of metal out, and clanged it down onto the anvil. The slave boy stilled his labours, waiting as his master began to beat the iron rhythmically, massive biceps stretching and contracting with every stroke. Sparks flew as he muttered the old incantations which would make the iron strong. Lugh, father of all gods, bless this blade. Bang! Ruagh, hag of blood, bless this blade. Bang!

  The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung, also sometimes translated as The Transformation) is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It has been cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is studied in colleges and universities across the Western world. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed (metamorphosed) into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. The cause of Samsa's transformation is never revealed, and Kafka never did give an explanation. The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repulsed by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become. - Summary by Wikipedia
