There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

In the underbelly of the Vietnam War, where shadows moved silently and secrets were currency, Specialist Peabody was thrust into a role he never sought. What began as a mundane Army supply job soon unraveled into a web of illicit power, where heroin was the product and lives were the price. With Captain Pickard off to the front lines, Peabody was left holding the reins to a stealthy empire under the cryptic command of Solitaire—a clandestine organization where a single playing card determined allegiance and offered a path no less perilous than it was profitable.
Peabody's token? The Two of Diamonds.
A badge of power; a test of loyalty.
As the echoes of war begin to fade, a ruthless new game emerges. Caught between familial duty and the lure of forbidden wealth, Peabody is tasked with recruiting others into this tangled hierarchy. Every selection, every promise—each one is a step deeper into a legacy of deception. Can he balance the scales between his love for his family and the dark demands of Solitaire?

1908, Long Island: For Millie Turner, the young and beautiful wife of a powerful New York stockbroker, Rose Briar Hall—a gleaming edifice of white marble on the North Shore—is more than a home. Every lavish detail speaks of Charles Turner’s status and wealth, and its stylish interior is testament to Millie's sophistication. All that’s left is to prove her worthiness to be his bride. What better way than to throw a grand party for New York’s social elite?

After painstaking planning, the night of the event arrives and all is perfection—until Millie wakes to a cold, eerily quiet house, and a gray cloud where her memory should be. Can it be true that she has been in and out of consciousness for weeks, ever since the party took a terrifying turn? Millie recalls nothing. But her friends have shunned her, and it soon becomes clear that if she can't find out what really happened that night, much more than her reputation will be at risk . . .

As the house that promised so much happiness begins to feel more like a prison, Millie wonders whether a woman alone, even a wealthy one, can ever be entirely safe. And if she succeeds in finding the truth, will it bring relief, or shake her marriage, and her life, to the core?

"The Man Who Would Be King" is an enormously popular story by the legendary British writer, poet and journalist Rudyard Kipling. In the tale, the narrator - a British newspaperman in India modeled after Kipling himself - meets two ex-military rogues named Daniel Dravot and Peachy Carnehan who have grand ambitions. They plan to load up on weapons, travel to the remote Afghan kingdom of Kafiristan and - through cunning and military force - become monarchs. When Carnehan returns alone two years later, he tells the narrator a fantastical tale: he and Dravot did become kings - even considered gods - only to watch the entire scheme fall apart after a bit of hubris proves their mortality. Famously adapted to the screen in 1975 by director John Huston, "The Man Who Would Be King" is among the most popular and beloved adventure tales of colonial British life in Asia and is presented here in its original and unabridged format.
