Sinopse

Sorry Spock, Emotions Drive Business presents scientific proof that creative advertising is better for the bottom line.

Adam Morgan, a Senior Creative Director at Adobe, gives both creatives and marketers the ammo to prove the value of creativity to stakeholders. For decades, marketers have battled over the value of creative ideas. Some believe creativity adds more impact, others believe it’s just window dressing. With data-driven marketing, the divide is only increasing. Today, more than ever, creative professionals need a concrete answer to the question, “Do creative ideas work better?”

Fortunately, science has finally caught up. There is an answer that isn’t based on subjective case studies. More than that, Adam shows how emotional ideas create experiences that are more effective and reveals why creativity is actually less risky for business. Sorry Spock, Emotions Drive Business shows readers how they can create the ideal experiences to improve their bottom line.

In 2017, Arif Naqvi and The Abraaj Group were on the brink of changing the world of private equity. Abraaj was a pioneer of impact investing, it had helped transform communities and companies across the world by financing healthcare, education and clean energy projects, and it was about to close a new fund worth $6 billion. But then it all came crashing down.
On 10 April 2019, after landing at London Heathrow, Naqvi was arrested on fraud charges. He is facing extradition to the United States and a prison sentence of up to 291 years if he is found guilty.
The dominant media narrative has painted Naqvi as a thief and fraudster, the key man in an organised criminal conspiracy. But in this explosive book, which is based on extensive research and interviews, Brian Brivati investigates how things are not quite what they seem. Icarus explores how Abraaj found itself caught in the middle of a geopolitical war between the United States and China, and when it would not back down economic hitmen tried to wipe it out.

From the close of trading on Tuesday, October 13, 1987, to the close of trading on October 19, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ("Dow") fell 769 points or 31 percent. On October 19, 1987, alone, the Dow fell by 508 points or 22.6 percent. Since the early 1920's, only the drop of 12.8 percent in the Dow on October 28, 1929 and the fall of 11.7 percent the following day, which together constituted the Crash of 1929, approached the October 19 decline in magnitude. The events of October demonstrated an unusual frailty in the markets. Only 3 percent of the total shares of publicly traded stock in the U.S. changed hands during this period, but it resulted in the loss in stock value of $1 trillion ($2.239 trillion 2019 equivalent). That such a relatively small transaction volume could produce such a large loss in value over such a short time span led to the rapid appointment of the Presidential Commission on Market Mechanisms by Ronald Reagan. The report of the task force, chaired by Treasury Secretary Nicholas Brady and completed in a few months, focused on the individual marketplaces and the interrelationship of existing market mechanisms, including the instruments traded, the strategies employed, regulatory structures, and electronic market information systems. The resulting publication came to be known as "The Brady Report" and it led to significant public policy regulating securities and other financial instruments during a period of broad technological change in society.

We are in the middle of a leadership crisis. CEOs are grappling with an onslaught of forces growth in their companies has stalled, and productivity is flat. At the same time, they are contending with a distrustful, cynical workforce along with their own personal burnout. They are surrounded by volatility and impermanence in everything from the economy to industry shifts. Many are uncertain and ill-equipped to withstand these forces. This book shows how great leaders are staying rooted and aspiring to new heights by applying a unique model of leadership, based on the idea that what makes a successful leader is who a person is, not what he does. This new leadership is defined by the Six Dimensions of Healthy Leadership: physical, emotional, intellectual, social, vocational, and spiritual health. Great execution begins inside a person; leaders need to step back from their actions and begin to think about themselves as people. They need to look inside themselves, into their values, personalities and experiences, and commit themselves to being healthy. Only then can they lead. What makes Grounded unique is that it focuses on a deeply human, personal approach to leadership, looking at leaders not as icons or heroes but as real people with aspirations, fears, concerns and emotions. The Six Dimensions model is illustrated by interviews with dozens of leaders such as Dennis Nally, PWC Chairman; Kay Koplovitz, CEO of USA Networks; Graham Allen of the British Parliament; Tim Ryan, Ohio Congressman; Eric Schoomaker, Surgeon General of the US Army; and Mike Puzziferri, Battalion Chief of the New York Fire Department. This multifaceted approach is also supported by the latest results of HCIs unique Healthy Leader 360 Assessment, which was developed based on hundreds of face-to-face interviews with executives around the world. Above all, the authorsoffer inspiration and motivation. Without glossing over the difficulty of readers leadership challenges, they show that change, while difficult, can happen, and give readers the insights and tools for revitalizing their personal and work lives.
