Sinopsis

The Theory of Moral Sentiments by Adam Smith  is a 1759 book by Adam Smith. It provided the ethical, philosophical, psychological, and methodological underpinnings to Smith's later works, including The Wealth of Nations (1776), Essays on Philosophical Subjects (1795), and Lectures on Justice, Police, Revenue, and Arms (1763) (first published in 1896).

According to Smith people have a natural tendency to care about the well-being of others for no other reason than the pleasure one gets from seeing them happy. He calls this sympathy, defining it "our fellow-feeling with any passion whatsoever" (p. 5). He argues that this occurs under either of two conditions:

We see firsthand the fortune or misfortune of another person
The fortune or misfortune is vividly depicted to us

Although this is apparently true, he follows to argue that this tendency lies even in "the greatest ruffian, the most hardened violator of the laws of society" (p. 2).
Smith also proposes several variables that can moderate the extent of sympathy, noting that the situation that is the cause of the passion is a large determinant of our response:

The vividness of the account of the condition of another person

An important point put forth by Smith is that the degree to which we sympathize, or "tremble and shudder at the thought of what he feels", is proportional to the degree of vividness in our observation or the description of the event.

Knowledge of the causes of the emotions

When observing the anger of another person, for example, we are unlikely to sympathize with this person because we "are unacquainted with his provocation" and as a result cannot imagine what it is like to feel what he feels.

The X-Men are a superhero team created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, first appearing in 1963. They are mutants, humans born with superhuman abilities, facing prejudice and fighting against various enemies. The team was initially canceled due to low sales but revived in 1975. The Claremont era (1975-1991) saw the team become Marvel's top-selling comic. Key storylines include the "Dark Phoenix Saga" and "Days of Future Past". The X-Men have had many team rosters, and faced several schisms, deaths, and resurrections. In 2019, the Krakoan Age saw mutants form their own nation on the island of Krakoa, until the fall of Krakoa led to the X-Men scattering across the planet.

    CURIOUS FACT SAMPLES:

The X-Men were created by writer/editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby, and they first appeared in The X-Men #1 in September 1963. The team was initially canceled in 1970 due to low sales but became one of Marvel's most successful franchises after its 1975 revival.

Mutants in the Marvel Universe are humans born with a genetic trait called the X-gene, which grants them natural superhuman abilities that generally manifest during puberty. Due to their differences, mutants face prejudice and discrimination, which is a common theme in many X-Men stories.

Stan Lee decided that the new group of heroes would be "mutants" because he had grown weary of creating separate origins for each superhero. Marvel publisher Martin Goodman initially turned down the name "The Mutants" because he thought readers wouldn't know what a "mutant" was.

During the years of 1995-2008 I fought the law (Secondary School Administrators) and the law won. I taught with my heart and not my head. I gave my all but did not know this was not allowed. I was nominated Teacher of the Year Twice. Yet lost it because I was teaching out of my area. I left twice in the middle of the year, well three times because the Law was not doing its job. This is a book I feel every new teacher or even a veteran should read. It is a tale all, no holds barred, except changing the names, locations to protect from any law suits. At first I labeled this “Teaching Black While White” because many districts I worked in were minority based or “At Risk.” Now I must warn my readers; this is a male Caucasian teacher not realizing this game is ruled by the opposite sex. Though most of my enemies were male Principals. I will be able to give you some subtle guides as to what to do and what not to do at any school. This book is dedicated to students every where who are stereo typed as low achievers. Also to teachers or educators who are thinking of giving up; don't give them the satisfaction. Stay in the game!
