So much to read, so little time? This brief overview of A History of God tells you what you need to know—before or after you read Karen Armstrong’s book. Crafted and edited with care, Worth Books set the standard for quality and give you the tools you need to be a well-informed reader.    This short summary and analysis of A History of God by Karen Armstrong includes: Historical contextChapter-by-chapter summariesDetailed timeline of important eventsImportant quotesFascinating triviaSupporting material to enhance your understanding of the original work  About A History of God by Karen Armstrong:  A History of God is a rich and comprehensive account of the concept of God across thousands of years of human history. Karen Armstrong, a former nun, focuses on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, with insights into the work of Western history’s great theologians and philosophers.   Can humanity persist without some idea of God? Far from moving into an era of pure atheism, Armstrong believes that God as a construct is more crucial now than ever. God is not “dead,” God has not abandoned us, God merely shape-shifts to adapt to new contexts, whether that context is medieval agrarianism, nineteenth-century romanticism, or twenty-first-century post-modern techno-urbanism.   Armstrong’s in-depth examination of monotheism provides a foundation for the curious novice while not holding back on academic concepts and obscure but fascinating historical accounts.   The summary and analysis in this ebook are intended to complement your reading experience and bring you closer to a great work of nonfiction.

The Brementown Musicians CD presents a story of four aging domestic animals who, after a lifetime of hard work, are about to be disposed of by their masters. In this slightly varied adaptation of the classic Grimm Brothers folktale, the animals, embarking on the road but not knowing where to go or what to do, are greeted by a guiding spirit who encourages them not to feel downtrodden or worthless but to recognize their inherent worth and talents by connecting to the music that resides inside them. All the animals have a characteristic musical piece that is unique to them which resonates their true nature. As the story unfolds, children hear classical music drawn from three centuries of piano literature, with each piece varied in style, tempo, and temperament. The selections, chosen with children in mind, are short pieces taken from famous composers such as Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Prokofieff. The interplay (though never overlap) of storytelling and music listening encourages children’s imagination while fostering an appreciation for the arts.

An unhappy childhood often affects who we become in adulthood and our capacity to enjoy whatever successes we achieve. In Healing of a Psychotherapist: A Journey of Rebellion, Reflection, and Redemption, Charles McCormack, MA, MSW, LCSW-C, uses his own life in illustration. With searing honesty, McCormack lays bare his personal and professional ordeals, along with the lessons he’s drawn and continues to draw. Though his story is unique, his struggles are not; thus, McCormack’s narrative works its way into the heart of each of us. His take home, the one given to him by his mother on her deathbed, is clear. Staring into his eyes, she was emphatic: “Charlie. Have a good life. Have a good life.,” refusing to break her hold upon him until he finally committed, “I will, mom, I will, “ all the while thinking, “how the hell do I do that?” McCormack hopes that sharing his story through this book brings his readers insight and healing.
Mr. McCormack holds master's degrees in Psychology and Social Work. Since 1974, he has worked in in-patient psychiatric units, family violence, sexual abuse treatment, and SUDs treatment programs, and private practice. In 1988, he was named the Senior Social Worker of Adult Long-term Inpatient Services at Sheppard Pratt. His writings include “Treatment of the Borderline/Schizoid Couple,” "Treating Borderline States in Marriage," and "Essence" (memoir), awarded the Montaigne Medal for being the most thought-provoking of books. He was a long-term faculty member of the Washington School Psychiatry and Clinician of the Year (Maryland Society of Clinical Social Work). Long before social work embraced trauma-informed approaches, McCormack wrote about and trained social workers in ways of conceptualizing and humanizing work with individuals and couples impacted by major psychopathology. In 2023, McCormack was the recipient of the University of Maryland School of Social Work's Emeritus Award for contributions to the profession.
