Marion Motley was recognized as one of the gridiron's most outstanding players when he was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968. His legacy as one of four Black players to reintegrate pro football in 1946 helped blaze a path for Black athletes in the highest echelons of professional sports. Black players once thrived during the early days of the NFL. Then a "gentleman's agreement" among NFL owners in 1933 kept those players out of the highest level of the sport. That changed in 1946. Hall of Fame coach Paul Brown was putting together the inaugural Cleveland Browns roster and signed Black players Motley and Bill Willis to be a part of it. Years earlier, Brown had coached his high school team against Motley's. They formed a strong partnership first with a Navy team and then in Cleveland, where Motley twice led his league in rushing yards and helped the Browns win five championships. Motley's efforts to play a physically brutal game in the face of societal racism and state-sanctioned Jim Crow laws helped reintegrate American sports. Yet half a century after Motley's enshrinement to the Hall of Fame, the memory of Motley and his accomplishments on and off the field have begun to fade. This book tells Motley's story of adversity, personal tragedy, and triumphs using archival interviews and new interviews with historians, friends, and descendants.

    Mischief among the Penguins -...

    H.W. Tilman

'Hand (man) wanted for long voyage in small boat. No pay, no prospects, not much pleasure.'
So read the crew notice placed in the personal column of The Times by H.W. 'Bill' Tilman in the spring of 1959. This approach to selecting volunteers for a year-long voyage of 20,000 miles brought mixed seafaring experience: 'Osborne had crossed the Atlantic fifty-one times in the Queen Mary, playing double bass in the ship's orchestra'.
With unclimbed ice-capped peaks and anchorages that could at best be described as challenging, the Southern Ocean island groups of Crozet and Kerguelen provided obvious destinations for Tilman and his fifty-year-old wooden pilot cutter Mischief. His previous attempt to land in the Crozet Islands had been abandoned when their only means of landing was carried away by a severe storm in the Southern Ocean.
Back at Lymington, a survey of the ship uncovered serious Teredo worm damage. Tilman, undeterred, sold his car to fund the rebuilding work and began planning his third sailing expedition to the southern hemisphere.
Mischief among the Penguins (1961), Tilman's account of landfalls on these tiny remote volcanic islands, bears testament to the development of his ocean navigation skills and seamanship. The accounts of the island anchorages, their snow-covered heights, geology and in particular the flora and fauna pay tribute to the varied interests and ingenuity of Mischief's crew, not least after several months at sea when food supplies needed to be eked out. Tilman's writing style, rich with informative and entertaining quotations, highlights the lessons learned with typical self-deprecating humour, while playing down the immensity of his achievements.

    Sacred Summits - Kangchenjunga...

    Peter Boardman

Mountaintops have long been seen as sacred places, home to gods and dreams. In one climbing year Peter Boardman visited three very different sacred mountains. He began on the South Face of the Carstensz Pyramid in New Guinea. This is the highest point between the Andes and the Himalaya, and one of the most inaccessible, rising above thick jungle inhabited by warring Stone Age tribes.
During the spring Boardman made a four-man, oxygen-free attempt on the world's third highest peak, Kangchenjunga. Hurricane-force winds beat back their first two bids on the unclimbed North Ridge, but they eventually stood within feet of the summit – leaving the final few yards untrodden in deference to the inhabiting deity. In October, he climbed the mountain most sacred to the Sherpas: the twin-summited Gauri Sankar. Renowned for its technical difficulty and spectacular profile, it is aptly dubbed the Eiger of the Himalaya and Boardman's first ascent took a gruelling twenty-three days.
Three sacred mountains, three very different expeditions, all superbly captured by Boardman in Sacred Summits, his second book, first published shortly after his death in 1982. Combining the excitement of extreme climbing with acute observation of life in the mountains, this is an amusing, dramatic, poignant and thought-provoking book.
Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker died on Everest in 1982, whilst attempting a new and unclimbed line. Both men were superb mountaineers and talented writers. Their literary legacy lives on through the Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature, established by family and friends in 1983 and presented annually to the author or co-authors of an original work which has made an outstanding contribution to mountain literature.

Are you convinced that you will never lose weight?
Have you heard about hypnosis to lose weight and would like to learn more?
    Hey listen,
At this time, I assume that you already realize how powerful your mind is. Have you ever heard that 90% of the disease is related to how your brain and mind work? Exactly, and that's the truth. But that's not the subject I am going to talk about today.
Today, we're talking about how to use your mind and empower it to help you get in shape and healthy. And how to make it help you instead of constantly pushing you back… Yes, I am talking about those nights when you feel stressed out, sad, anxious, and the only way to push it away that you know about is to get some chips, hamburger, pizza, or any other fabricated food.
Just imagine. How would your life change if you have been "IN CONTROL" of every single action you take – and STRONGER than any craving you may experience?
In fact, The 1998 Study by Kirsch showed that utilizing hypnosis plus CBT instead of CBT on it’s own for weight loss yielded nearly double the amount of weight loss. Yes, double!
And, another study by Cordi & Rasch stated that after listening to the hypnosis the participants experienced up to 80 percent more slow-wave sleep, which hugely improves the overall quality of your sleep.
Keep in mind that you don't have to hire some expensive therapist to make these strategies work for you: inside this book, you'll find the knowledge and tools you need to achieve the results you have always dreamed about!
Don’t you think it’s time to start your Hypnosis journey?
