Summary

The Daodejing (Chinese 道德 經, Dàodéjīng) (older translation: Tao Te King) is a collection of spell chapters, which is attributed to the legendary sage Lǎozǐ. The genesis is uncertain and the subject of sinological research. Regardless of other translations, Dào means 'way, principle' and 'sense', and Dé means 'force, life' and 'charisma, virtue, goodness'. Jīng refers to a guide or classic text collection. The two eponymous terms stand for something inexpressible, whose actual meaning the book would like to point out. For this reason, they are often left untranslated.
