Its plot is far from outdated, because a 50 year old man’s experiences today are far more similar to Goethe’s writings than one might expect: The discrepancy of one’s own feelings of still being young, and the real impression one leaves with young people, for example. There is sometimes a world of difference! The experience of aging is vividly described, and it is extremely fascinating how relevant Goethe’s story still is.
