Summary

Ramon Llull va escriure el Llibre de meravelles a París, durant els anys 1287-1289. Fèlix, el protagonista, és enviat pel seu pare a recórrer el món i a meravellar-se de l'actitud dels homes, que no actuen com correspondria. En el seu viatge pels diversos ordres de la creació, Fèlix s'interessa per tot allò que no entén i en demana raó a diversos savis, que li aclareixen els dubtes. L'obra, a través de la ficció narrativa, i de centenars de relats breus, ofereix una àmplia visió sobre la comprensió medieval del món. Fèlix pregunta i obté respostes sobre Déu, els àngels, el cel, els elements, els metalls, les plantes, o bé els homes i els seus comportaments. Quan toca parlar dels animals, en canvi, el jove assisteix a una extensa faula, el famós Llibre de les bèsties, que no parla pròpiament d'animals, sinó dels aspectes més foscos de la política humana. El Llibre de meravelles es troba a la cruïlla de diversos gèneres: la narració sostinguda del marc general; el repertori d'exemples i semblances, i l'exposició ordenada de continguts relatius als tres grans sectors de la realitat: divina, natural i moral. La cohesió de tots aquests ingredients la dicta l'acció intel·lectual que genera la meravella, és a dir la sorpresa adolorida davant del capgirament de les "intencions", que és una troballa metodològica típicament lul·liana.
