In fact, within the narrative of Scripture, the crucifixion of Jesus is literally the crux of the story—the axis upon which the biblical story turns.   What is it to feel nostalgia, to be skeptical of it yet cleave intently to the complex truths of feeling and thought? In a series of 64 gorgeous, ramifying, unsettling prose poems addressing late-twentieth- and twenty-first century experience and its discontents, The Ruins of Nostalgia offers a strikingly original exploration of the misunderstood phenomenon of nostalgia as both feeling-state and historical phenomenon. Each poem, also titled The Ruins of Nostalgia, is a kind of lyrical mini-essay, playful, passionate, analytic. Some poems take a location, memory, conceit, or object as their theme. Throughout the series, the poems recognize and celebrate the nostalgias they ironize, which are in turn celebrated and then ironized again.   Reflecting on the career of a prominent poet, this biography focuses on Canadian wordsmith Barrie Nichol — more commonly known by his pen name, bpNichol — who was a practicing lay psychoanalyst and vice president of one the largest and long-lasting North American communes for more than a decade. Recognizing his international influence as both a visual and sound poet, Nichol's literary achievements are reviewed, including The Martyrology, a renowned, seven-volume poem, four novels, two musical comedies, six children's books, hundreds of hand-drawn visual poems, and even 10 episodes of Jim Henson's hit television series Fraggle Rock. Penned by one of Nichol's numerous literary collaborators, this account reveals the close connections among the writer's various activities, particularly how the autobiographical inquiries and Freudian dream theory linked with the young poet's biographical self-awareness. The book demonstrates how the Subject's main psychoanalytic client was his own writing, following Nichol as he explored its slips, accidental puns, and unintended meanings and implications for the communal future of the human species, both in high literature and comical prime time television.

  Sami Ibrahim's play two Palestinians go dogging uses the lens of humour to explore how the everyday becomes political and the political becomes everyday in a conflict zone.
  The play won the Theatre Uncut Political Playwriting Award in 2019 and was premiered in May 2022 at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, London, directed by Omar Elerian.
