By the creators of Criminology: a complete chronicle of the Golden State serial killer investigation, including photographs and documents.   In 1976, a serial rapist terrorized California’s Sacramento County, breaking into homes and leaving a trail of destruction behind him. As the masked predator expanded his turf, his evil urges drove him to murder. In Northern California, he was known as the East Area Rapist. In Southern California, he was called the Original Night Stalker. When his crimes were finally connected, he would become known as the Golden State Killer. By 1986, he had committed a staggering tally of crimes, including at least 12 murders. In season two of their popular podcast, Criminology, veteran podcaster Mike Morford and true crime researcher Mike Ferguson unmasked this killer in a story that spans more than forty years. Joined by the investigators who hunted him, the witnesses who saw him, and the survivors who lived to tell their stories, Criminology Season Two: The Case of the Golden State Killer examines the story of the most prolific serial rapist and murderer in American history. Now, The Case of the Golden State Killer presents an even more complete chronicle of this true crime story. Based on the podcast, this digital volume features additional commentary, photographs and primary source documents.

The true story of a World War II squadron leader and his remarkable experiences in twentieth-century military aviation.   Amid commemorations for the fiftieth anniversary of the event, Richard Pike’s young daughter asked, “Why do they go on about the Battle of Britain so much?” Richard proceeded to explain, describing scenes of Hyde Park picnickers watching dogfights in the skies above them—and revealed to her that her own grandfather had played a big role in this dramatic turning point in the war.   Tom Pike joined the Royal Air Force in early 1924 as a Flight Cadet at Cranwell. During a long and varied career through wartime and peacetime, he held a wide variety of RAF appointments around the world, and when he eventually retired he’d held the ultimate post, that of Chief of Air Staff, and also that of Deputy Supreme Commander Allied Powers Europe. This book, written by his son, is a vividly told account of his leadership of No. 219 Night Fighter Squadron based at Tangmere in 1941, offering a unique angle on this aspect of WWII, and a biography of a senior officer with a wry sense of humor, a hatred of violence, and a determination to serve his country.

The remarkable story of a refugee from Soviet Ukraine who found his way to upstate New York—and changed the American wine industry. Dr. Konstantin Frank forever changed the palate of American wine. Forced from his home in Soviet Ukraine during World War II, he was astounded by the terroir when he arrived in the Finger Lakes region, an agricultural scientist from a foreign land desperately looking for work. Against popular notions, he believed that the vinifera grapes that produced some of Europe’s and California’s finest wines would prosper in this part of New York State, but was met with skepticism and resistance.   He proved his detractors wrong, and because he shared his knowledge freely with others, Konstantin’s innovativeness has allowed the region to produce some of the world’s finest Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and other varietals. Four generations of Franks have continued his legacy, and their winery has won record numbers of prestigious awards every year. This book tells the inspiring story.  Includes photographs

The Souls of Black Folk is a 1903 work of American literature by W. E. B. Du Bois. It is a seminal work in the history of sociology and a cornerstone of African-American literature.
The book contains several essays on race, some of which the magazine Atlantic Monthly had previously published. To develop this work, Du Bois drew from his own experiences as an African American in American society. Outside of its notable relevance in African-American history, The Souls of Black Folk also holds an important place in social science as one of the early works in the field of sociology.
In The Souls of Black Folk, Du Bois used the term "double consciousness", perhaps taken from Ralph Waldo Emerson ("The Transcendentalist" and "Fate"), applying it to the idea that black people must have two fields of vision at all times. They must be conscious of how they view themselves, as well as being conscious of how the world views them.
