Obliged to find a job in order to support his family, he became a lawyer's clerk, and was later an employee of the Ordnance Survey and an assistant in the Library of Trinity College, Dublin.   Written after two years of artistic silence, during which the world came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Minneapolis became the epicenter of protest following the murder of George Floyd, Bluff is Danez Smith's powerful reckoning with their role and responsibility as a poet and with their hometown of the Twin Cities.   ‘Tarawih’ (Arabic) comes from the root word that means to take a rest, and take rest I did.Notes After Terawih is a series of word sketches I drew based on my distracted observation during night prayers, or terawih prayers, done in a single mosque during Ramadhan. Thousands of us here in Singapore engage in terawih for thirty nights in a row – that’s a huge multitude of experiences. Yet, all these experiences are tucked within the walls of the mosque and ultimately remain in Ramadhan... As a new kid in this terawih thing, I decided to take some notes. None of these were written on the spot. Instead, they were recalled and typed on my phone as I headed home for the night.

  Stewart Pringle's play The Bounds is a darkly comedic tale of national divides, folk horror and the end of the world as we know it. It was first co-produced by Live Theatre, Newcastle upon Tyne, and the Royal Court Theatre, London, and performed at both theatres in 2024, directed by Jack McNamara.

  The Poetry of Alfred...

  Alfred Lichtenstein was born on the 23rd August 1889, in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, the son of a Jewish manufacturer.  He grew up in Berlin before studying law at Erlangen in Bavaria.   
   
  A writer in the Expressionist style his poems and stories are short but beautifully honed works.  His tragically curtailed life allowed only a small part of his talents to rest with us.  Undoubtedly a full life would have given the world a very gifted literary force. 
   
  Alfred Lichenstein volunteered for duty in the German Army for World War I.  He died on the front at the Somme in the early months of combat on the 25th September 1914.  He was 25.
