Beschreibung

In You have no normal country to return to, Tom Sastry explores questions of national identity and 'the end of history'. A blistering, bleakly funny and timely second poetry collection, following his Seamus Heaney First Collection Prize shortlisted, A Man's House Catches Fire.
By turns crisply satirical and questioning, You have no normal country toreturn to ranges across the legacies of Empire, postwar migration and the current crisis in English identity. Sastry's precise, brilliantly attuned poetry asks how the times we live in and the tales we tell about them affect us; how our emotional landscapes are shaped by national myths and the more personal stories we tell about ourselves. It is a book about illusion, and discovering, again and again, that what was once taken for granted was never really there; a guidebook for an age of "enchantments collapsing on themselves".

The language of Poetry is an art that most of us attempt at some point in our lives. Although its commonplace exposure has been somewhat marginalised in today’s often fast-paced lives we all recognise good verse that can empathise with our thoughts or open us up to experience new things in new ways, to better understand and to enjoy the many strands of our lives.
But finding a starting point can be overwhelming, even off-putting, so in this series we offer up our Top 10 classic poets, who brim with talent and verse, on a range of subjects and themes that we can all enjoy.
In this volume we explore those poets and their poetry who began what many have cited as the beginning of the modern age with new thinking and the loosening of old strictures. Their journey begins.

This book was written over a period of ten years. These poems are inspirational, they leave the reader with points to ponder. The book is inspired by real life experiences and stories from those around me. The book covers a wide range of topics from family dynamics, love, oppression, xenophobia, discrimination. It touches on issues, that people are not comfortable sharing. The book cover was painted by a great friend, whom I consider a sister, a Kenyan painter and art entrepreneur Wanjiru Kibera. We met in France 10 years ago. So I hope this book will be a full artistic encounter, that will enrich and touch your soul. I hope it will cause reflective thinking.
As, for me the author, I have a Bachelor's degree in French Theatre and Cinema, both practical and theoretical (Arts du Spectacle/Performing Arts) from the prestigious French University : Université de Grenoble Alpes.

I Am Valuable is a book of poetry that sheds light on all that must truly be treasured. While covering a vast array of topics, including ostracization, temptations, and speculation, the poet focuses on what should be held important the most – love, compassion, and confidence. Most importantly, eternal faith in God and the belief that hard work overcomes hardships is stressed. Rich in tone with profound descriptions, each poem works its magic as the reader revels in its beauty.Based on Reggie Ariel Jackson’s personal life experiences, this book is a testimony of all that he has endured, making it possible for others to not only learn from his lessons but also find hope and the will to continue living.
