From the original Guns N’ Roses drummer comes a tale of sex, drugs, excess, hairspray, and an intense 20-year struggle with addiction.

Guns N’ Roses is one of the world’s most successful rock bands, with estimated sales of 90 million albums worldwide. Steven Adler is the original drummer, with an infamous past of sex, drugs, and rock ’n’ roll that led to his removal from the band.

And here, for the first time, Steven Adler tells it all. In My Appetite for Destruction, he reveals with wit and candour his personal struggles with drug addiction, including the financial ruin he faced after being kicked out of Guns N’ Roses and the health problems that almost claimed his life several times—two heart attacks, a suicide attempt, and a debilitating stroke, as well as an epic 20-year addiction to crack and heroin.

Now clean and sober, Steven sets the record straight on his life and his time with Guns N’ Roses, during the rise and collapse of one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

Delve into the exquisite, sensuous sculpture of Camille Claudel with this in-depth look at her remarkable body of work. Along with many of her paintings and drawings, her sculpture is examined with a focus which reveals every intricate detail of her incredible renditions of movement and human emotions. Fascinated from a young age by crafting models with her hands, French sculptor, painter, and draughtswoman Camille Claudel (1864-1943) fought to overcome the hurdles placed in the way of female artists and carved a place for herself in the history of art. Following an apprenticeship with Alfred Boucher, Claudel entered the studio of Auguste Rodin, with whom she had a tumultuous ten-year love affair which often threatened to eclipse her art. The two artists had a profound impact on one another, each of their features appearing in the other’s work. After breaking off the relationship to forge her own path, Claudel created a stunning, incredibly modern oeuvre. Though many were destroyed by her own hands, those that remain are a powerful testament to her artistic genius.

This analysis of the role of fiction in the films of Christopher Nolan is “unassumingly brilliant and surgically incisive” (Psychoanalysis, Culture, and Society).   From Memento and Insomnia to the Batman films, The Prestige, and Inception, lies play a central role in every Christopher Nolan film. Characters in the films constantly find themselves deceived by others and are often caught up in a vast web of deceit that transcends any individual lies. The formal structure of a typical Nolan film deceives spectators about the events that occur and the motivations of the characters. While Nolan’s films do not abandon the idea of truth altogether, they show us how truth must emerge out of the lie if it is not to lead us entirely astray. The Fictional Christopher Nolan discovers in Nolan’s films an exploration of the role that fiction plays in leading to truth. Through close readings of all the films through Inception, Todd McGowan demonstrates that the fiction or the lie comes before the truth, and this priority forces us to reassess our ways of thinking about the nature of truth. Indeed, McGowan argues that Nolan’s films reveal the ethical and political importance of creating fictions and even of lying.  Nolan is the first filmmaker to devote himself entirely to the fictionality of the medium, and McGowan discloses how Nolan uses its tendency to deceive as the basis for a new kind of philosophical filmmaking, aligning Nolan’s films with Hegel’s philosophy.   “The most important work to date on Christopher Nolan. . . . [A] thrill to read.” —Hugh S. Manon, Associate Professor and Director of Screen Studies, Clark University
