Summary

While the Book of Joel is accepted by many as dating to the 9th through 7th centuries BC, the oldest fragments of it to survive to the present are Hebrew fragments of the Sheneim Asar found among the Dead Sea Scrolls written in the Aramaic script, dating to the Hasmonean era, and fragments of the Dôdeka dating to the same era. The Dôdeka’s fragments are quite similar to the later copies of Joel in the Septuagint manuscripts, and the Hebrew fragments found within the Dead Sea Scrolls are generally the same as the Aleppo Codex’s Joel, which shows the surviving texts have been copied accurately since around 100 BC.As it is unclear when exactly Joel lived, it is difficult to place his writing into a historical context, however, he does refer to his temple as being in the valley of acacias, also called the valley of Shittim, which identifies his Lord as Ba'al Hammon, the Canaanite fertility god. The Temple of Hammon, at the ruins of Tell el-Hammam in Jordan, reportedly sent tribute to Solomon when he was the king, and the town around the city existed from roughly 980 to 332 BC. As Joel mentioned the Valley of Jehoshaphat, it is accepted he lived after the time of King Jehoshaphat, King of Judah between approximately 870 and 849 BC. At the time, the region northeast of the Dead Sea, where the valley of acacias is located, was under the dominion of the Kingdom of Samaria. Joel also refers to Zion and Jerusalem, which implies a strong connection to the Kingdom of Judah.

The Bible is not merely for information but for being saved by God and changed through his words

Believers know the Bible is powerful—but how so? And how does God save people and transform lives through Scripture? Author and theology professor Jeremy M. Kimble integrates an evangelical doctrine of Scripture with a robust, coherent practice of engaging with Scripture.

Behold and Become contends that the Bible, which is God's self-revelation, coupled with the Spirit, works to produce salvation and growth in godliness. Believers will see how sound beliefs about Scripture correspond with practices that allow for God's transforming work, such as:

    ● How the Bible's inerrancy demands our careful attention to the biblical authors as theologians

    ● How the Bible's efficacy operates within the doctrines of the triune God and the church

    ● How the Bible's authority directs our focus toward who God is and how he acts in the world

We become like what we behold. Rather than passively assume the animating power of the Bible, Behold and Become guides listeners to make Scripture's vitality an overt part of their theology of Scripture and practice of Christian life.

In a Christ-centered company, Jesus is revealed through the influencers of the company and, ultimately, throughout its defining culture and habits.
Marketplace Christians are occasionally told platitudes like “The Bible is the best handbook for business,” “God cares about business,” “Business is ministry,” and “You don’t have to leave the business world to do work that glorifies God.” However, few have seen the actionable, scriptural proof that these claims are indeed the case—other than perhaps a proverb here and there.
The Christ-Centered Company provides practical biblical commentary and real-world best practices for 37 biblical business “habits” that defi ne the culture and operations of a Christ-centered company. In this book, we’ll explore what the Bible says about each of the following major aspects of your company:Corporate Purpose and CultureMarketing, Sales, and Customer CareAccounting and AccountabilityPeople ManagementBusiness Law and ConflictRisk ManagementPhilanthropy
Imagine how much your company’s habits, culture, performance, and impact would upgrade if you were to discover and apply God’s will for every aspect of your company. This is a growth process that begins when one influencer in a company decides to partner with God in his mission to conform the company to his will.
Will you be that person on behalf of your company and everyone it influences?
