Sinossi

Stalingrad Battles explores the pivotal World War II clash that reshaped the conflict's trajectory. It examines the brutal fighting between German and Soviet forces in the city, highlighting the strategic decisions and far-reaching consequences of the Soviet victory. The book underscores Stalingrad as a crucial turning point, marking the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, while also providing insights into modern warfare and the resilience of the human spirit.

One intriguing aspect is the analysis of how the Soviets adapted their strategies for effective urban combat, transforming a seemingly inevitable German victory into a catastrophic defeat. The book delves into the context of Operation Barbarossa and the initial German advances, then progresses through the bloody siege of the city and the Soviet counter-offensives, Operation Uranus and Operation Little Saturn.

It draws upon military archives and firsthand accounts to offer a fresh perspective on the battle's key events. Unique to this account is its focus on adaptive strategies and its integration of primary source material, providing a granular understanding of the battle. The book's strength lies in its accessible yet rigorous approach, making it invaluable for military history enthusiasts and students of World War II.

The story of Violette Szabo is one of the most extraordinary in the annals of World War II espionage and covert operations.

Totally fearless and a dead shot, Violette Szabo volunteered to become part of the Special Operations Executive, Britain's premier sabotage and subversion organization of the time. On June 7, 1944, Violette left behind a two-year-old daughter to parachute into France on a special mission.

Szabo and other British agents were assigned to organize French resistance fighters to hinder the advance of the SS Das Reich Division to the Normandy beaches. Unfortunately, Szabo's party was soon ambushed by the SS.

Unable to walk due to a twisted ankle, Szabo covered the retreat of her comrades with machine-gun fire. Captured, she went through a series of interrogations and changes of confinement before ending up at Ravensbruck, the German all-women's concentration camp. She was finally executed on January 26, 1945. She was twenty-three years old.

This exceptional work has been written with the assistance of Violette Szabo's daughter Tanya and unravels fact and fiction about one of the most fascinating characters of World War II.

During the postwar years, the United States initiated a comprehensive trial program in Germany to address Nazi crimes. This program included three main sets of trials: the International Military Trial at Nuremberg, the Nuremberg Military Tribunals, and trials conducted at the Dachau concentration camp. The Dachau trials focused on prosecuting individuals involved in atrocities at several camps liberated by American forces, such as Dachau, Mauthausen, Buchenwald, Flossenbürg, and Dora-Mittelbau.
These trials were a critical effort by the United States to punish Nazi crimes within the concentration camps. Over 1,000 defendants were tried at Dachau for violating the laws of war, as defined by international and American military norms. The legal process faced challenges due to the unprecedented nature of the crimes. A notable innovation in the Dachau trials was the use of a criminal conspiracy charge, which accused defendants of participating in the standard criminal design of the concentration camp system as a criminal organization.
However, after 1947 and 1948, issues arose due to inadequate planning for the trials' aftermath, particularly regarding the appellate process for convicted individuals. This became more pressing amid escalating tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. Two scandals drew public attention, leading to official investigations by the U.S. Congress into the Dachau tribunal program.
While the reviews were critical of the Army's handling of clemency, they largely praised the trials themselves. Despite this, over time, the Dachau trials faded from public memory.

From author of The Fourth Trimester, a guide for women of any age who feel out of touch with their body and their true desires but want to connect with the power of their sexuality.Women experience so many crossroads at the different stages in our lives—these might include exploring sexuality, beginning a relationship, becoming a mother, trying to get pregnant, losing a baby, in perimenopause or menopause, leaving a marriage. At these thresholds, our bodies change, our relationship to sexuality changes, and our desires can become mysterious. Most of us don’t have the language, information, or courage to communicate about these changes, so we are left feeling confused, lost or broken. Kimberly Ann Johnson, sexological bodyworker and Somatic Experiencing practitioner, has helped thousands of women connect with their bodies and desires and put their pieces back together. In Erotic Seasons, she offers profound insights to women at all stages. Erotic Seasons guides women toward a revolutionary reckoning with sexuality. Grounded in understanding the female body in our monthly, seasonal, and lifetime rhythms, the book guides readers to locate themselves in their own anatomy and nervous system patterns. Kimberly reframes the archetypes of the female lifespan—maiden, mother, virgin, crone—for women today and shares powerful stories of women across generations, helping readers orient to the realities and mysteries of each life stage. Then, with this knowledge, women can experience sexuality that allows us to become more present, awake, and alive throughout our lives.

A long-treasured but forgotten classic of folk healing, with an introduction and commentary by the author of Backwoods Witchcraft and Doctoring the Devil.Ossman & Steel’s Guide to Health or Household Instructor (its original title) is a collection of spells, remedies, and charms. The book draws from the old Pennsylvania Dutch and German powwow healing practices that in turn helped shape Appalachian folk healing, conjure, rootwork, and many folk healing traditions in America. Jake Richards, author of Backwoods Witchcraft and Doctoring the Devil, puts these remedies in context, with practical advice for modern-day “backwoods” healers interested to use them today. The first part contains spells and charms for healing wounds, styes, broken bones, maladies, and illnesses of all sorts. The second part includes other folk remedies using ingredients based on sympathetic reasoning, including sulfuric acid, gunpowder, or other substances for swelling, toothache, headache, and so on. These remedies are presented here for historic interest, to help better understand how folk medicine evolved in America. It is Jake Richard’s hope that reintroducing this work will reestablish its position as a useful household helper in the library of every witch or country healer.
