Synopsis

Cory is the sweetest man Beau Chance has ever communicated with. He's smart and funny, and makes Beau feel like he's the center of the universe. They've been talking for months, and now that their first date is rapidly approaching, Beau can't help but feel the pressure to get everything just right. New outfit? Check. Romantic dinner reservations? Check. Visit to the local occult shop? Mandatory.
But Beau isn't going for a love potion or a good luck charm. No, Beau needs a Halloween miracle if he's going to make it past the first date. The way Beau sees it, when the man of your dreams has been dead since the 1980s, you'll stop at nothing to make sure the one night of the year he gets to walk the Earth is the best night of his afterlife.

In his second collection of stories, author and filmmaker R.W. Gray (Crisp) once again finds the place where the beautiful, the strange, and the surreal all meet—sometimes meshing harmoniously, sometimes colliding with terrible violence, launching his characters into a redefined reality. A lovestruck man discovers the secret editing room where his girlfriend erases all her flaws; a massage artist finds that she can alleviate her clients’ pain in more ways than one; a beautiful man invites those who want him to do whatever they wish with his unconscious body; and a gay couple meets what appear to be the younger versions of themselves, and learns that history can indeed repeat itself.

What could a humble peasant offer a lofty, but dour, crown prince?

The prince, being a good man, responded in kind and treated everybody fairly. But, much to his father's confusion and his mother's disappointment, there was one thing the prince would never do -- smile.

Finally, unable to tolerate his son's dour expression any longer, the king sent out a decree. He dispatched messengers to every corner of his country, and runners to all the neighboring kingdoms. The first person to make his hard-faced child smile would earn the right to marry him.

Unfortunately for the king, things did not go as planned.

What happens when men who work two sides of the moral code of crime come together? Todd Gleason, con man, meets Jimmy McSwain, private detective, in a game of wits that challenges their own take on justice.
For Todd Gleason, there was something alluring about Jersey-born Angela Delvecchio that caught his attention. They had a fun night, but that's all, right?
On his train ride back to the city, Todd overhears two men of questionable repute discussing the death of a friend of theirs -- and the money she left behind. Sounds like an opportunity for an intrepid con man.
Fresh off a case of dueling cheating spouses, Jimmy McSwain sees two locals arrive at his uncle's pub. Known in Hell's Kitchen as usually up to no good, Jimmy finds himself more intrigued by the man following them. But their chance meeting may force the two of them to work together on a spiraling conspiracy.
It's a tough world out there. New York has its villains. New Jersey has its scams. Both have their bodies. This story is fun, dangerous, suspenseful, and fast-paced, and could only have come from the singular mind of Adam Carpenter and Joseph Pittman.
