Synopsis

Iuvenilio and Iuvenilia are cousins. Their family, native of Kentucky, moves overseas owing to the turbulent political situation, ending up on Saint Martin’s hills. Over there, on the promise of making a fortune from distilling whiskey, the two cousins experience their first instincts and passion. But this simple story will prove to be intimately connected to a major one. And there, in Saint Martin, in a game of subtle eroticism and tension, Iuvenilio and Iuvenilia will take part in one of the most significant events in the history of the Risorgimento.

In the last few years to the end of the last star in the universe, galaxies have been destroyed by black holes, which prevail and make the universe a cold and dark place. Humanity explores space in search of a new home before the collapse of the Milky Way until a group of settlers manages to colonize another planet outside the solar system.
Technologies to perpetuate memories in robots are developed during the long journey and the human being manages to achieve the dream of immortality! Automata are created to receive the minds of humans in their bodies. But the apparent peace between the colonists ends when disagreements arise from who can be perpetuated and what ideas must be preserved. Issues of identity, loneliness and the difficulty of dealing with changes in body and mind are discussed.
Years go by before a theory about parallel universes is put to the test on a mission to study a black hole. A group of robots explores the universe and is about to cross the space/time barrier, in a portal to other worlds. They witness admirable phenomena, only speculated by Science. At the edge, they discover that the transition to other multiverses requires more than technology. Time and space travel reveals more about their alter egos than events that occur in other dimensions. Trapped in space and time, travelers fail to draw on the forces of nature and the past that hold them back. How to break free from the past? What to do not to experience death and be swallowed by the emptiness of existence?

Nothing pleases Gunther Grizzwell like a good meal. Accompanied by his porcupine pal, the always-perplexing Pierpoint, Gunther roams the hills and campsites of the forest forever on the lookout for a tasty morsel of any shape or size. In this e-book only collection of Grizzwells comics, the duo ponders life’s most important questions, such as: When it comes to road kill, is white or dark meat best? How important is presentation when serving up a delicious woodland creature? And which has the worst aftertaste, opossum omelets or stray Chihuahuas? Clever and sharply drawn, The Grizzwells is a funny and unpredictable spin on the traditional family comic strip—with bite. Created by award-winning artist Bill Schorr, it has been in syndication nationally for more than twenty years.

Was Superman's arch nemesis Lex Luthor based on Aleister Crowley? Can Captain Marvel be linked to the Sun gods on antiquity? In Our Gods Wear Spandex, Christopher Knowles answers these questions and brings to light many other intriguing links between superheroes and the enchanted world of estoerica. Occult students and comic-book fans alike will discover countless fascinating connections, from little known facts such as that DC Comics editor Julius Schwartz started his career as H.P. Lovecraft's agent, to the tantalizingly extensive influence of Madame Blavatsky's Theosophy on the birth of comics, to the mystic roots of Superman. The book also traces the rise of the comic superheroes and how they relate to several cultural trends in the late 19th century, specifically the occult explosion in Western Europe and America. Knowles reveals the four basic superhero archetypes--the Messiah, the Golem, the Amazon, and the Brotherhood--and shows how the occult Bohemian underground of the early 20th century provided the inspiration for the modern comic book hero. With the popularity of occult comics writers like Invisibles creator Grant Morrison and V for Vendetta creator Alan Moore, the vast ComiCon audience is poised for someone to seriously introduce them to the esoteric mysteries. Chris Knowles is doing just that in this epic book. Chapters include Ancient of Days, Ascended Masters, God and Gangsters, Mad Scientists and Modern Sorcerers, and many more. From the ghettos of Prague to the halls of Valhalla to the Fortress of Solitude and the aisles of BEA and ComiCon, this is the first book to show the inextricable link between superheroes and the enchanted world of esoterica.* Chris Knowles is associate editor and columnist for the five-time Eisner Award-winning Comic Book Artist magazine, as well as a pop culture writer for UK magazine Classic Rock.* Knowles worked with Robert Smigel on The X Presidents graphic novel, based on the popular Saturday Night Live cartoon, and has created designs and artwork for many of the world's top superheroes and fantasy characters.* Features the art of Joe Linsner, creator of the legendary Dawn series, and more recently a collaborator with comics maestro Stan Lee.

Philosophers have always enjoyed asking awkward and provocative questions, such as:

What is the nature of reality?

What are human beings really like?

What is special about the human mind and consciousness?

Are we free to choose who we are and what we do?

Can we prove that God exists?

Can we be certain about anything at all?

    What is truth?

Does language provide us with a true picture of the world?

How should we behave towards each other?

    Do computers think?
Introducing Philosophy is a comprehensive graphic guide to the thinking of all the significant philosophers of the Western world from Heraclitus to Derrida. It examines and explains their key arguments and ideas without being obscure or solemn. Lively and accessible, it is the perfect introduction to philosophers and philosophical ideas for anyone coming to the subject for the first time.
